| How's it going all? I've been looking into putting an evolution pickup in my 2006 Schecter Hellraiser(came stock with EMG 81 and 85)in either the bridge or the neck position, and I am seeing the options of whether or not I have an f-space in the pickup. what is it? what does it do? And, should I get the pickup with or without the F-Space? Thank you much, and let me know your opinion! ^_^ |

F-spaced is just wider string spacing.
the only real effect it has is some very minor volume changes for the high E and B strings.
basically, F-spaced measure in like 3mm wider than non-f spaced. fixed bridge guitars USUALLY use non-f spaced, but it's been a recent trend for manufacturers (such as gibson) to have wider spacing on the bridge nowadays.
the "standard" measurements from low E pole to high E pole are 48mm. F-spaced is supposedly 51mm. however... from measurements i've done it's actually more like 50mm on standard spacing and more like 53-55mm on f-spaced. you can use these as an approximation for your current pickup.

just read you have EMG's heh... no measuring there then.
do you have another guitar you can compare to? basically, measure the saddle grooves of the low E to high E on a guitar with a known spacing. and compare them to your schecter. |

Why not consider modding your Peavey Raptor instead? Its a cheap guitar that lends itself to experimentation. I'd recommend you leave your Schecter alone. Its a great guitar.. I wouldn't want to screw mine up. Your Hellraiser is like 4 or 5 times the worth as your Raptor.
Secondly, have you thought of Seymour Duncan's P-Rail pickup? http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/progressive/prails_shpr1/
Maybe you want a modern sound of the Evolution as opposed to the more vintage sound of the P-rails. Listen to them both though. |
