I accidentally pluged my CS-3 into the line6 ac (versus the proper DC) plug on my pedalboard. By the time I realized what happened I could already detect the smell of a pcb melting. When I opened the pedal up I noticed that the D1 diode was toast and the writing on it was no longer legible. What diode is this? And are there other components I should consider testing or replacing? I work with technicians who fix circuit boards all the time and have access to testing equipment.
The diode may have sacrificed itself to save the rest of the pedal. When someone fried my PS-2 I also had to change the 100uF capacitor paralell to the diode. You may want to verify that it's still ok.
The diode is called S5500G. I don't think there's anything special with it. I couldn't get hold of the same type or find a replacement so I put in a 1N4148 instead. Ideally you would want a diode with a low reverse breakdown voltage (~20V) but I'm not even sure the original had that.
I replaced that diode and now the pedal will not switch on/off, and I have to jiggle the in/out connections to get any sound, which is very weak. The strange thing is that the knobs seem to function, and I can still hear the compression effect, though it is very faint.
