About two years ago I bought a DS1 at Guitar Center after reading it was a great pedal. I found it to be disappointing, tone is a little "buzzy" and it seems to loose some output volume when driven hard into distortion.

I never use this pedal and I would be willing to try a mod, I'm a decent DIY'er.

I've read that the chips are different in the newer versions. Can this model be made to sound better?

Any have any opinions to share?

Mods to recommend?

I agree with you -- the current-production DS-1 (and SD-1) are too buzzy and less than musical unless modified. I've got an AnalogMan-modded DS-1, and like it. two of my friends bought AnalogMan-modded DS-1s themselves after hearing mine (and one hated the stock MIT DS-1 sound), so yes it can be improved. in my opinion, it's definitely worth trying to mod it yourself....
