i know we kinda do it here already in the appropriate sections, (Non Boss products, etc.....
but was wondeing if it would be needed, advantageous or informative to put up a review section here for those of us here that do get new (Boss and Non Boss products) to let other members in on whether or not it is a good buy, build, sound, etc. adn what each thinks of the product
just a thought i had |

I think its a pretty good idea With an optional layout/format I know I'd give it a go! |

Yeah sounds like a pretty cool idea, i'm for it :)
As for the layout, maybe also include what genre music you play, what else you use alongside the gear (amp, guitar, other effects whatever), how much you payed where its from etc. That way people will be able to see whether they'd like it (from the genre etc) and how much they should expect to pay for it. A lot of the prices do change a lot of the time, but they dont often change by much and some do stay the same (such as SP-1's have been around the 300 mark since I first knew what a boss pedal even was!) |

I wasn't gonna contribute to this thread for worry of stepping on toes, but after thinking it over quite a bit I felt like contributing my 2 cents worth(take it for what it is guys)...
I'll play Devil's Advocate here and say it's not really necessary. Mainly because typically we'll all read reviews about a pedal or other piece of equipment that someone loves, so we have to have one...then it turns out not to be the "awesome talent enhancer" that we may have thought we were getting. What one player might think is a "great sound" another might buy and think it's total crap.
One may have to sift through threads a little to dig up info, but personally I think a separate "reviews" section wouldn't be necessary. |

| and there's also a whole bunch of places to go for reviews not to mention that traditional written review is dead ever since youtube is around |

In response to Mikey, I was actually thinking the same thing about youtube. Collective written reviews on here would be useful, and would effectively make bossarea.com a complete one stop site for everything about Boss. Of course the only thing missing after that would be hearing the pedals - is there any way to embed videos into posts (maybe if they're hosted elsewhere like on youtube or another external site) - or maybe we could all make high quality demos of our favourite pedals and Bossarea admin could just post them on the main site? On all the pages there is the speaker at the top, which I assume was intended for sound demos but I never heard any. Maybe just a little video/audio clip on there would be a better alternative to having an actual review page?
I don't think text-based reviews are completely dead, just as far as tonality is concerned nothing will beat hearing the pedal except trying it out yourself. And if you can try it out why bother looking at reviews in the first place? |
