I suppose some of you have had a really good guitar, perhaps the best you ever had, and then sold/traded it and then regretted it deeply. In my case I bought a 1957 Les Paul Junior for a very fair price in the mid 80s, this guitar was pure dynamite and a real rocker. This is still one of the best guitar, sound wise, that I have ever played. A close friend of mine liked it too, he offered me a 70s Les Paul Deluxe (with maple neck) and a 70s Telecaster (really a heavy one). At the time I thought it was a good trade, but none of the new guitars was any good. So guess I regretted this Well, later I sold both of the guitars and economically I did a very good trade from the Junior, but I missed that furious Junior The best thing is that my friend never has sold it and I can borrow it every time we jam if I want, but its not the same

Hi Goran I do know how you maut feel. When i was about 17 years old, I sold my 64 Sunburst Strat.
I have make a conscience effort, to not beat myself up about it too much. Who would have ever imagined, that they would appreciate SO Much, in value?
One consolation, is that it's not still around to play, like your is.
My pre school friend sold a Mint condition Vox Valve Amplifier, the one that was mounted in a tubular chrome steel frame, & had a shelf suspended from large springs, to protect it from shock & vibrations. He sold it about 2 years before I sold my 64 Strat.
I have never seen another, Vox In tubular steel frame, like his, ever again, maybe there is a pic of one somewhere on the web. Oh yeah, it went for a couple of hundred dollars, I suppose it was a lot of money back then.
your friend may one day sell it back to you. ???
Regards Dr. Bob |

If my friend is going to sell the Junior Of course I would have the first chance to buy it. But I dont think he is going to sell it, hes been a huge collector of Gibson guitars but is selling off as he can make a living on it. But he keeps the good ones and those who arent extremely valuable. He have had a couple of Sunburst from the late 50s etc etc. The good thing to have a friend like this (Ive known him since I was 12, we started our first rock band together then) is that I have had the chance to play lots of vintage guitars over the years. And have had the opportunity to buy some of them to really great prices. He also have a 14-pin OD-1, Im after that one
Dr Bob, your selling of the the 64 Strat is a very sad story. I have sold some pre-CBS Fenders too during the 70s & 80s, but the Junior is and was a killer guitar.

I've been lucky. All I could afford when I grew up was a cheap plywood strat copy followed by more ply up until 1984 when I got a decent Washburn that I still own today. |

When I started this topic I was thinking of loosing a really good guitar, not necessarily loose money. Maybe your plywood Strat was excellent? I bought a ply-strat cheap once to make a slide-guitar, but apart from really poor build quality it sounded really, really good, I traded that one too..

Hi Goran You know, it's really lucky, that I don't even have a picture of it. And my dad was a very keen, & good amateur 35mm photographer. And he took picture of everything. Can anyone even remember 35mm Film.
If I had a picture of it, it would hurt even more. At the time I sold it to purchase something, that I really wanted at the time, & that item went on to define what I was to study & persure in my future adult life.
Well that's how, I console myself over the sale. I think, this is getting a bit too deep.
Will I ever have another sunburst 64 or 60's Strat, probably. when all my adult children finally leave, to carve out their own lives. here is Dr. bob's simple maths class:
Less money spent on food & utilities = more money to spend on 60's Strat + 50's or 60's Telecaster.
I think all us family guys know, what i'm on about.
FRANZONI, buy what you will crave for in future years RIGHT NOW, before the little FRANZONI comes around. Then teach him to play, & then jam with him-her

Hi SP-1 Sounds like you're still searching for that elusive tone.
I wonder if Goran knew, how big a can of worms he was opening up? I suppose we should be grateful that he started this thread.
It's sort of like, group therapy I suppose.
We get to vent some steam, & maybe, get a bit of sympathy from the other members along the way.
But in the end, we all have to move forward.

| Fortunately, I still have all my guitars and amps, but I have gotten rid of a few effects here and there...but nothing that I really want back, so I guess I have done alright...Thats what I get for being a packrat I guess.... |

I've done fine as well. My first guitar was a Harmony Flying-V from JCPenney purchased for $100 which I still have. It's only worth a couple 10-spots now so I may as well keep it.
I did however take a beating on an RV-5 return.. bought new, it sounded lush in the store yet harsh at home. It was like flushing a $100 down the toilet when I traded it in for a PS-5. Now I wish I had it back. |

actually i forgot about one. i had a Creamy Dreamer that i sold when i was in a pinch a few years back. and it was one of the first ones made. (the guy that made them lives in my hometown). the letters of "sustain punch" were in regular solid printing and not that wierd jagged print that most are done in. i wish i still had that one |

| There are not a whole lot of things that I have sold, at least not anything that good. I did start that thread though about selling off some of my pedals so maybe that will change. |
