I just got my freshly acquired PQ-3B!! I'm pretty happpy with it....but i was just wondering: couldnt the PQ-3B be considered more a preamp (like the battery powered circuits on active basses) for passive basses than a genuine equalizer (like the GE-7B)? And please dont shoot me for the 'genuine eq' bit

yep, IMHO the PQ-3B effectively turns any bass with passive electronics into an active bass, with (foot)switchable eq boost. I'm real happy with mine as well, and likewise my PQ-4 for guitar.

one question that someone might be able to answer: suppose you plug a guitar or bass with onboard active eq into a Boss pedal that's running off a battery. I tried to run my cheapo 12-string bass (with active eq*) thru my Boss pedals without using an AC adapter, and the PQ-3B sucked two batteries dry over two sets, even though the PQ-3B wasn't even on all the time. (I know that Boss pedals draw current even when bypassed, but I only expected digital effects to eat batteries so quickly.) in other words, does the fact that the bass also had a battery in it cause the pedal's battery to be drained faster than normal?

*(incidentally, the active eq on this 12vr makes such a loud 'pop' when activated, that it's pretty much useless.)
