Couldn't the rogue "MESSAGE" threads just be deleted from the forum, instead of locked?

Why are they only appearing in this sub-forum?

Are we perpetuating the problem by clicking on them? If so, how should we know not to...?

I'm not sure but I think the spammers have created scripts that creates new accounts and adds the message. Theor hope is that someone is going to look at the users profile and find the links there.

I went through and deleted all accounts they have created up until now but that doesn't help much. I don't think it matters to them at all whether we click, reply or delete their posts.

I was hoping they grow tired of the whole thing but it looks like I will have to do something. Not sure yet what to do. I could change the scripts so posts containing only the word "message" would be refused but it would be too easy to work around it. A better solution would be to only allow users with 10 or more posts to display a homepage link in their profile but that would be harder to implement.

The one trouble I see is that the spammer posts push the legitimate ones further down in the queue, and potentially off of the first page before, say, an auction has expired, and a member here might miss out on something that they might be looking for.

It unfortunately creates more work for you, which I feel bad about since as far as I know there aren't any other moderators here to provide assistance. Manual deletion might end up being the only way to stop them, since virtually anything automated can be circumvented.

I'll try to stop instigating them by keeping my smart ass remarks to myself...unless people find them amusing, then the show must go on! LOL.

I've deleted most of the spam-posts now. I've left those that had replies in them.
