I have a Stratocaster I recently bought at Elderly's. The sticker on the back of the guitar said that it was strung in the factor with Fender Super Bullets. I just had a string break and pulled it for replacement but the end has a ball on it, not a bullet.
Now I'm puzzled. has anyone seen fender bullet strings with a ball end before? It would not make sense for the store to have removed the strings to put cheaper one on - the Super Bullets are only $5 a pack so it's not like they are something exotic. |

| was it a new guitar? If so someone might of bought it previously restrung it and returned it. i never play with the strings on a new guitar, the first thing i usually do is change the strings |

+1... I always restring a new guitar as well, first thing i do... either the shop restrung it after a break or the originals were worn out or Zerks might be right.... super bullets are made to sit into the hole in a strats block or a teles ferrule, the idea behind it is they sit better than a ball end so they stay in tune with fender guitars better...don't think fender would ship guitars with anything else.... |

| Sorry, I didn't make it clear - it was bought new. Elderly's has a good reputation and I wouldn't think they would represent a used guitar as new. It had all the stickers, tags, etc. and shows no signs of wear so I assume it is new. |

| Maybe the strings were changed at the store? |

Sure, if a guitar has been hanging on the wall for a while and quite a few have demoed it there at the store, they have to change the strings to make it enticing for the next customer. Just because strings may have been changed does not mean misrepresentation on the part of the store. |

You might just want to ask Elderly themselves about it, as they claim to set up pretty much every new and used instrument they sell, and the guitar may have had old strings on it... http://elderly.com/repair/setups.html |

| That's what I'm going to do - send an email to Elderly to see what the story is. Thanks. |

+1 on the store re-stringing it. They might have an in-house brand for which they pay less than they do for the Fenders.. or they might be Fender ball-end strings.
I heard Fender's going to stop making strings?? Anyone else hear this? |

Not sure about all strings, but I think some bass strings have been discontinued...
