The most important thing is your "ear", I mean, if the sound is good for you, nothing else matters...

Hi Rid! Does it have the THAT chip or dBx chip inside? Could you tell us the serial number? Thanks!

ZS41629 July 2004. THAT chip, which is based upon the DBX as I seem to recall?!?
I have quite a few comps, my CM comp/lim also has a THAT chip, uses a 4301 one instead.
Also have optical ones, an Ibanez with the old metalhouse 3080 OPA as well, and another old Pearl comp with the normal black 3080(was made for a 12v supply, modded it to take 9v from the DC).
Had both the CS-1 and 2.
I like compressors

So my CS-3 is the "unknown velcro" S/N model, and upon opening up the cover, it has the "THAT" chipset... board is inscribed "CS-3 ET BOARD 75232520R0 ; TYE TOO4HB"....

On the solder side of the board, there is the code " 22927378RO 1/2" near the input jack side.

Any thoughts as to the approximate date of production ??

Are the DBX chipsets considered to be nicer sounding than the THAT?

Thanks for any "input"

Some friends here on the forum likes the sound from dbx chips. In my case I dont know (yet) because I have a THAT CS-3 no fully functional and recently I bought on Ebay a MIJ CS-3 that I hope has dbx IC. it is on transit, and scheduled to come on February 20.

I will show my opinions when I tested both CS-3, I ordered parts from mouser to fix the MIT CS-3, So, my opinion will be about NTE1794 vs whatever on MIJ.
