Little disappointed that OC-2 has been discontinued. This is one of my favorite pedals because it sounds like no other....except for Mutron Octave Divider, which costs 20 times more!
I recently tried OC-3 but didn't like it because sounded too thin.
I managed to pick up the rarer Octaver for 40 off a local classified. (Much like Craigs List) I actually love it. I use the octave lower to give me a dark, heavier sound when playing on the low E and A strings. Works a treat on single notes.
I am very happy with my OC-3. I don't know if the OC-2 mode is as good as the original one, but I think that it is pretty cool and has very good triggering! I don't know why it should sound thin - I love it just the way it is!
I haven't noticed much tone difference between "Octave" vs. "Octaver" because both sound GREAT. I think it's just another branding gimmick, similar to MIT vs. MIJ.
