Hi all...i'm playing with the idea of buying a 19" rack reverb unit probably an alesis microverb or something similar to go with the dynacord rotary speaker sim i bought a few days ago..basicially the reverb in the musicman is dead and the marshall doesn't have any..it has to have stereo inputs thats why i'm leaning towards the alesis but i also saw a few analog stereo spring units on ebay if anyone here has ever used these....??...any feedback would be gratefully recieved.... |

I have used a thing called The Great British Spring long ago, as I remember it was really good, it sold well and was popular before the digiral reverbs hit the market big time. Used mainly in studios but also nice for guitar. I also had Fender Reverb unit reissue for some years, this is very, very good for guitar, probably the best there is. Expensive like gold, big and bulky. Franzoni: whats wrong with RV-5?? Not a rack effect but as good as many of them. I have used some rack effects too but nothing I remember as outstanding.

hi goran...there is nothing wrong with the RV5,in fact if i was loking for a addition to the pedalboard it's probably the one i would go for ..it's just that i can probably pick up an alesis or similar for little or nothing and and i would like to have the reverb last on my chain of effects after the dynacord cls- 22 i just bought(rackmount)..i just like the idea of keeping the two of them in a neat flightcase for gigs and also i probably wouldn't turn the reverb off so i don't really need a pedal....have you any experience with a dedicated reverb unit for guitar...??..if i had two amps with built in spring reverb i would most likely just use them but i don't......i don't want to wash over everything in a big cathedral effect just a little 'amibeience' in the background a bit like eric johnsons clean sound.... .......... |

I have used only the Fender unit and Boss RV-series sometimes outside of home, as most of my amps used have onboard spring-reverbs and nothing beats that. I have never used racks live, I dont trust them. potential tone-suckers

you can get a stereo spring reverb in a 19" rack unit..only a few companies make them and they seem to be expensive enough as well....i might hold off as i'm thinking of upgrading the amps and the one of the amps i'm looking at has built in spring reverb.....but if i was going for a rack unit i was thinking along the lines of the microverb 3 as it doesn't have lots of menus and patches you have to edit.....as far as i can see it just has a few rotary pots on the front very handy in a live situation....as stratosphere would say..i don't want to 'drop' a load of cash on an effect unit i will only use for one effect..the microverb 3/4 versions can be got here now secondhand for about 100/120 euro..... |

My friend has a Micro and uses it exactly as you describe. Pretty much just leaves it on all the time. Not sure which Microverb version it is but he swears by it. It's just really simple and does it's thing well. I have a Quadraverb myself and those are great but it would be overkill, if all you need is reverb, since it's more multi-effects. But if you find a Quadra or Midiverb cheap, go for it. They're stereo and you might find a use for the other effects someday.
Soundwise it's not gonna replace a good spring reverb on an amp but I think Alesis makes the next best thing as digitals go.

One digital reverb I do like a lot, but its half-rack, is Boss RRV-10. Mono in, stereo out. They can be found really cheap and to my ears it sound very much like RV-2 but has more functions.
