The fact, supported by documented and ancedotal evidence, and known by all guitarists and most people in general, that the Gibson Les Paul is the best electric guitar ever made leaves me to ask; which guitar is the second best? |

well if we are going along those lines, surely a strat?
but with saying that, i dont think either are the best guitar ever made. they were some of the first electrics but they have both been greatly improved upon over the years. personally i would say a super strat, old jackson or charvel! |

ya im not particularly a Les Paul fan but nowadays there are so many companies out there that its hard to say. to me when i look at all the options, Fender is the ultimate guitar for me. as far as tone, price, looks, and most importantly, Playability!!! gimme a strat.
not to mention PRS, Gretsch, Ibanez, Jackson and so on. depends what kinda music and style youre doing |

| A good Telecaster is all you need unless you are going to be doing some extreme mid-scooped death metal or some overly processed bridge humbucker through a recto sound like every other godd*mned band on the radio sounds like. |

can't agree on this subject...the strat or the tele is the best by far....les pauls are a good tool to have in the box.....but for an all round guitar for all styles...??....... |

I´m a Fender man too, strats and teles. But there are good ones and bad ones of course. I have owned a couple of Les Pauls, but the only one I really liked was a late 50´s Les Paul Junior. This guitar sounded like it was born to rock ´n´ roll. I have played 3-4 1958-60 Les Pauls too, great guitars of course, but not quite my bag. Humbuckers sounds too muffled to me in most cases, but a great humbucker with a good tube amp on the edge of breaking up, well, that´s something…. So, Fenders best and close second Les Pauls/SGs.

What about the quality control issues? There's a brand new Fender stratocaster at the music store and the finish is terrible it hasn't even left the store and the paint is all cracked and faded. They even had to put it in the showcase to keep it from getting damaged more I guess. In fact it looks like its 30 years old and no discount either,it's got a huge price tag.I was shocked. And they sure seem to sell a lot of stratocaster pickups, the Gibson ones usually last the life of the guitar, are they fragile or something? |

Well, Gibson Worn & Faded series has not that great finish either… And quality control is about the same I guess, I´ve seen both Fenders and Gibsons I never wants to buy regarding quality issues. I have tried a couple of PRS SE (Korea made) and own a Tremonti SE, these seems to be of very good quality. Never tried a real PRS, but I suppose they are very good quality wise.
When I buy a new or used guitar I always spend a couple of hours setting it up and fixing things that are not so good, with one exception, my CS 1957 Strat. This was so good adjusted so there was nothing more to be desired. And I like to fix guitars a lot…. I spent 3-4 hours with a new Worn & Faded SG before I was satisfied, but it was a lot of fun.

I like to tinker around too, Goran and I was mostly kidding, its a beautifully reliced Rory Gallager strat they have there and I wish I had the money. I think that there are to many variables to be able to declare one make or model of guitar the best, but if you do you sure can generate some conversation on the old Bossarea forum |

Yes, Fender or Gibson, it´s like in the old times… Beatles or Rolling Stones, very few people liked both of them (or, so they said). One thing for sure: When you buy one of the more famous guitar brands, you pay a lot for the name on the headstock.
So, pedals 4 pv, this is sensitive stuff to talk about

yup like i said before, Gibson and Fender seem to remain the kingpins of the guitar world, but i think for a good 10 years now, and the future to come, we will start to see more and more companies arise. so many new companies have quality and price but time will tell if they last. For example, i think its safe to say that Jackson, Ibanez and ESP pretty well own the metal world. i own a Jackson and its unbeatable for metal!!! |

I'm with Jack on this. A good Tele is way better than any LP or Strat. I own all three and the Tele is my go to guitar. |

First, my Mustang is the greatest guitar ever. Second best must be a Telecaster, preferably one that looks like this:
