Hi guys, new to the forum here.
I've got myself a Dunlop 535 (not 535Q) wah and it seems to be like an old one. How do i know when is it made?
the serial number is AA32F875 and unscrewing the backplate it stated 'JUL87' and a scribbled 87
so is this from the 80's pedal? cause in magazines, i;ve nvr read this one. *magazines i read are old ones dating from 1989 (library archives)
So if any1 can help with this, that'll be great |

Not really and never thought about that as a few friends did mention that dunlop customer service is inconsistent. Besides in Malaysia, the contacts for them such as dealers etc are somewhat limited as most of them are salespeople rather than guitar players themselves and many lack product knowledge
Would be really nice if i can get it from this forum BTW the underneath (permanent mark scribbles) said JU83 not JUL87 as mentioned b4
so if any1 can help..much appreciated thank you |

Hi calvinpck
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Have you email the support group over at Jim Dunlop? They now own the Crybaby name/s. They are a really decent bunch of support guys over there.
But I would also tend to belive the internal label you found. Any chance you might upload some pictures, for us to have a look at? Especially the label & the internals.
Sometimes you can try to decode the date codes on the transistors as well.
Good luck Regards Dr. Bob |

Hey doc. I've been reading some stuff on this forums for months b4 deciding to join the group. Unfortunately i am not a hands-on person with stuff. I let my ears tell me wat is good and let some1 else do the buidling for me....lol...as a matter of fact...very clumsy with soldering so long story cut short i really suck at the stuff u guys do (pedal mods etc) but i refer to your guys regularly on which chip etc is good and good pedals around.
more of an amateur player and a complete FAIL at electronics and handywork....
Will try to upload the pics asap. |

Welcome to the forum... ..if your wah pedal has the extra stuff like the boost switch etc.. on it that the GCB-95(original cry baby wah) doesn't i think that date on the bottom plate is wrong although i'm not 100%..i think i remember the first of the 535's came out during the early 90's...like i said i'm not 100%..... |

i'd have to agree with franzoni, it seems like it would be from the 90's and not 80's. interesting model to say the least with that little boost divit on the bottom |

Hi ovrdrv123
=== Minor topic hijack === I was unable to locate any of your posts, in which you were asking about the Fasel inductor wah. You may have accidentally deleted both the posts.
Anyway here is a great link with all the info you may need, written by R.G. Keen at GEOFEX. The Technology of Wah Pedals There is even a section titled: The legend of the Fasel Inductor.
I hope this helps.

Hi calvinpck
have you looked on the Pot sometimes there are datecodes on the pot. If it's a HotPotz, you should be able to find date codes on those as well.
Is it fitted with a large metal HotPotZ or a black hotpotz II. You pictures did not show the area around the pot, gears & bypass switch.
The JU83 inside the base plate does not look authentic. Looks like someone just used a marker pen.
I was unable to see all the IC's clearly, there may be some date codes on some of those & the transistors as well.
Regards Dr. Bob |

In his ultimate wisdom the good Doctor forgot to supply the link to the site. Use the search on this site and type "wah".

Hi to all thank you so much for your contribution. Its helping me to put pieces of the puzzle together
Doctor Bob i looked into the components and cant find any dates. However as mentioned, it has HotPotz II as the pot of the pedal
To some guys who are nice enuf to help. 10-Q very much. Sorry i'm pretty new to Wah pedals too and rarely use them but tracing their history etc is a 1st step for me so many thanks
BTW my wah has a black fasel (which i read in previous forums is ths standard fasel). Is it possible to replace it for the 535 as i know some ppl do replace theirs in the original (new) crybaby's.
Sorry for some blurred pics. I thought that was clear enug for all to see, my mistake =( |

Hi calvinpck & Guys
Please understand that we have many people from many countries where English is not their primary language.
It makes it very difficult for them to read posts if you use abbreviations that are more common to what some people use on TXT message abbreviations on mobile phones.
Some people read our forum using utilities like "Google Translate" & "Bable Fish" translators.
The translators do not have any reference/translation tables for the short message TXT terms like: 10-Q enuf ppl enug any1's b4
I'm not telling you off, I'm just trying keep the forum accessible to our international & non English friends & members.
Thanks for understanding. Regards Dr. Bob |
