Guys, for those who know they will get one of the new Fender/Boss units (and to everyone that is intrrested in getting one):
* What amp(s) do you think these two units will sound best with ?
* Which one do YOU want to get ?
* What will a Bassman LTD sound like if you use a the Bassman-voiced unit on one ? Will anyone do that ?
Thanx to all

Im quite sure the Fender/Boss pedals will sound at its best with a clean neutral amp like Roland JC or something like that. I have hard to imagine that a Marshall on full tilt will sound like a Deluxe when that pedal is used. Probably will most amp set for clean work fine with the new Fender/Boss pedals. For myself Im most interested in DN-2 and FZ-5, both of them sound very interesting on paper.

I got this from a fellow GuitarGeek.com member - and seeing that he is a huge critic, this review sounds very good to my ears !
************************************
Boss/Fender pedals Tried out the new Boss/Fender pedals today at GC. Only played them for a few minutes each as I didn't have a lot of time to spend there.
I used a baja Tele and a HR Deluxe
So I tried the Deluxe Reverb one first. I was pleasantly surprised by the gain, it really did a fair copy of the real thing. It didn't get fizzy at a higher settings as I noticed other COSM things to get.
The trem was decent and it seemed to touch a bit on that special trem mojo that the DR's have. It is definitely better than the TR-2 and the trem in the ME-50. Not as throbby or wobbly as my VL trem, but like I said, it touched on that specialness of the DR's trem. I didn't like the tap-tempo feature, as that is the only way to set the speed.
The reverb left a lot to be desired, it was really only functional with chords below halfway settings. Anything over that and it got glitchy. Over 12 o'clock with single notes was OK, unless I plucked them hard, then glitchy again. Same thing I noticed in the ME-50. For a surfy guy like me, that is just unacceptable. In it's defense though, it did sound pretty good at lower settings.
The Bassman pedal impressed me. There was a noticeable, and comparable to the amp, difference in the two inputs, which i thought was a nice touch. The tone controls seemed pretty interactive with one another, more than just a number, they depended upon and enhanced each other. That could have been just my take on it though. More testing is necessary.
At higher gain, this box did a good job of reminding me of a cranked tweed amp. Lots of low end, but it kept the tele sparkle, just a good Bassman should. I would like to try it out with a 2x12 and a 4x10 to see what it could do. I would also liek to run it as a preamp to see how good it is in that application.
I think that these pedals should be looked into by anyone who is looking for the Fender sound in a box. I will test them with other amps when I have the chance. I would like to see if they can make a Vox or a Marshall sound like the respective amps. Plus, I would like to try them on a solid-state amp to see how the two interact.
So all in all, I give the bassman an 8.2 out of 10 I give the DR a 6.8, with heavy points off for the reverb. Without the minus for the reverb problems, I give it an 8.2 also

Hi SirJackdeFuzz, Goran & Guys
Thank your friend for the honest review, I saw that a local Evilbay only dealer over here, ut them up on his EvilBay Store About $269-270Au.
I downloaded & read the manuals. They show the Tone Control settings for a combo, & stack amps, to get the best sound.
But in my humble opinion, I would be running these pedals into the main amp in - effects loop on most amps, and totally bypassing the pre amp your amp, because these pedals are emulating the pre amps in the real amplifiers.
You would just be adding more color from the tone controls in you amp, if you were to plug into the front end inputs.
I noticed that Roland-Boss don't actually state this, other that in a quick drawing in the user manuals.
Also, that's probably why, they are using a neutral sounding amp like the JC's when they demonstrate these pedals.
Still, I will be looking at both pedals, after the dust settles a bit.
Regards Dr. Bob |
