Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm after a power supply for my ME-8 it runs on a 14v 800ma power supply but at 230V I need one for 110V as I'm playing abroad. Boss won't send one to the UK and the UK Boss won't get one in. It'll cost more to ship one here than the unit itself sowould this work? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-Universal-selectable-worldwide-Selectable/dp/B00220631Q/ref=pd_sxp_grid_i_2_0 it's changeable to 14V but output is 8.0Amps. Would this fry my beloved ME-8, I know not a jot when it comes to Amps or whatever. Thanks
G'day! There may be a challenge with this type of supply - most of them have a "sense" circuit that expects a specific type of load... the load of the laptop it is designed for. It may be OK, but it may not.
I think Lauie is right about that laptop's expect a certain load, atleast with certain adapters so you can't really know what that adapter is like. But considering this is a universal adapter designed for various laptop i would assume that it doesn't need a very specific load to work. its hard finding a 14V adapter. the adapter for the Hughes and kettner warp factor is 14V but i don't know what current it needs. i doubt it needs 800mA like the ME-8. I would go for the original adapter even though it costs more.
I've got a 230v version it's the 120v I need. I've tried Boss Uk and Steve was super helpful but Boss US will not ship outside the US. I don't know why they can't make their power supplys 110-230v like mobile chargers etc I'll just use a step up transformer or try and see if I can pick an Boss BRC-120 up in Mexico etc. Thanks for responding
Don't even go there with Dolphin music. I got in touch to double check it was 120V the guy emails me with a description from a power supply off E-Bay saying you have to cut this off and attach that. I then asked him if he was sure it was an official Boss power supply and he sent a message back to say he had sent the wrong info and they didn't do a 120v. I told him he should change the advert and yet it's still up. Laurie thanks for the offer but I'm only in Mexico for one gig then it's on to Columbia the next day knowing my luck it'll all go Pete Tong. I've asked if the promoter can get me one so I'm going to go with a step up transformer and I'll have a look around Music shops over there on my day off. Once again thanks to everyone who replied.
Why not just go to a few local electronic stores & ask for a small 110VAC to 230VAC step up transformer, & use that in front of your current 230V supply.
They look like a small sealed plug packs. it won't have to be a a very high current one, as the ME-8 doesn't draw that much.
Depending on how handy you or your Tech friends are? You could always lash up a 230AC to 110VAC in reverse.
At least with the step-up tranny you know things won't go 'pete tong'.......even if the gigs are over befoe you get one it might be handy to have it in case your back over that side of the world again....
Just picked up two 45w Step ups off Evil bay if you see any footage of a guitarist standing onstage staring at a pedal board going up like the 4th of July it'll be me!. We normally take our full gear so everythings covered but with flying to the gigs weight becomes an issue hence I'm using hired gear when I get there so using the old trusty ME-8 for sound so I have consistant sound through out the tour.. When I get back I'm to do a separate US and US gear set up.
