Basstyra, what kind of pickups are in your Tele? I see the bridge has definitely been changed, but was the neck pickup changed too?
I see the saddles were upgraded too, and the mini switch is a nice touch. Looks good! I like the black screws on the pickguard. You've definitely given it personality! |

The bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan humbucker, two "rail". Don't know the exact model.
The neck one seems to be original, but I'm not sure. I'm not curious enough to check...
Saddles were probably upgraded, yep. But the screws are silver, not black.
It's my brother's, I borrowed it for an undefined laps of time... He got it recently, allready modded. I just added the strap locks, and the boost switch.
So it has personnality, but it's not from me. It fits me, though. I'm really happy with it. |

I guess I'm an "oddity" here, but my main working axe is this 2002 Gretsch 6120:
Apologies if the shot is a little grainy; I shot it with my cell phone. The only mod has been the new pickguard custom made for the guitar, Falcon knobs and Schaller strap locks. Plus I did have the crappy switch and jack replaced with better quality stock. Check here for some more of my gear. |

Hi Basstyra Which of the clean boost circuits did you build? Did you mount it in the guitar's cavity? Was it a FET or Transistor boost?

It's a little clean boost I designed, basically it's just a buffer followed by a gain (inverter) stage. It's built around a TL072 opamp.
I mounted one in the cavity, with a battery. |

Thanks Basstyra I just went to the link on your site, & I saw the pics of the booster in the switch & pot cavity of the Tele. How long before battery changes? Does the mini toggle you added turn it on, or is it turned on like an effects pedal with the guitars jack?
Neat PCB Basstyra.
I tend to build FET boosters with J201 or VN2222 FET's

It's powered by the jack, like effect pedals. I only switch the gain section, the buffer is allways active, so in fact this is an active guitar, without battery I don't have any sound.
I didn't changed the battery yet, so I don't know. |

I played a friends Thinline Tele a few Saturdays ago during a very late night gig. Can you see the smile that is still on my face?
I have a few friends that own them as well.
I played a Fat Tele, about a year ago into my Fender 75 amp, it had a humbucker at the neck, & let me tell you, that was a marriage made in Heaven. But then most guitars that I plug into the Fender 75 just sound wonderfull.
Tell me more about your 52 RI Tele Should I look at getting the Samarium Noiseless Pickups & S1 switching. My friend has a 1969 Aqua Tele & it has a fantastic neck, although I don't know what the shape of the neck is called.
I know I don't like, some of the newest Tele's that have the very big-high frets. They just don't feel right to me, have you found this as well?
Regards Dr. Bob
Dr Bob, regarding 52 RI tele; I think it is very good with the stock pick ups, I have tried a lot of tele pick ups over the years and the original on the latest 52 RI is perfect. The earlier RI teles is said to have adequate pick ups but not as good as the later ones. One pick up to change is maybe (and I say maybe) the neck pick up, and then for a DiMarzio Twang King. Twang King is a fantastic pick up, not as dull as ordinary tele necks, sounds a little like a strat neck pick up.. As for woodwork the RIs are top quality in my opinion.

Thanks for the info Goran As I stated in a prev. post, A Telecaster has been very high on my GAS wish list for a long while.
I like the look of the Blonde 52RI.
I have been toying with the idea of buying, both of the 60th Anniversary, Fender Telecaster & Stratocaster guitars, Sort of like a Pigeon Pair, although the serials wouldn't match. I thought that these may become a future collectors series of guitars, & what would be better than to have both as a set.
Like Closet Classics; Played now & again, but well looked after.
What do you guys think? Is my thinking flawed? I would like to hand these down to my two guitarist sons.
Or should I just get the 52RI & play the hell out of it. I do like both ideas, maybe I should just get all Three?
Does the 52RI have those large frets? I know that the 60th Anniversary's, appear to have them.

this is my guitar collection they are all working guitars except for the coronado which is a bit delicate for gigging anymore....

hey basstyra ...snap....!! this is my silver series tele with some seymour duncan pickups and a toggle switch to split the humbucker...

this is for the bro who likes the sg 2000s this is all orginal except for the switch which i had to change after a fall at a gig.. and i took the scratch plate off because i thought it looked better....

and this is for all you vintage fender buffs out there....
the white strat in the main pic is my main working guitar.... the blue strat is a squier which i put the clapton boost system into as well as some fender noiseless pickups..i'm thinking of ripping the midboost out as i like the passive nature of the rest of my guitars and the boss pedals seem to work better with them.... |

I started out with a Harmony Flying V Gibson copy back in 1983 & wired in tons of mods but never changed out any pots or pickups. Next, I bought my middle son a Peavy Raptor Stratocaster copy which was decent. My oldest son has an Ibanez GSR-200 bass which he played only a few times. I think I'll keep it anyway. Then we got an Ariana acoustic & my beloved Martin OMC-15E with Fishman electronics.
About a month ago, I bought 2 new Schecter C1 guitars. They are an OUTSTANDING value with smooth bindings, figured maple tops, Grover tuners, string-through body sustain. My C1 Classic has the neck-through body, Vine of Life inlay all up the fretboard, & authentic Seymour Duncan pickups with a 5-way coil-tap selector while my son's Hellraiser sports the EMG active pickups.. all for $700/650.
I figured it was finally time to upgrade my Harmony hehe. The Schecters are simply beautiful with sustain to die for. They're 25% the cost of a comparable PRS.
I experience one odd thing with my Classic though, it goes 1 semitone fret sharp overnight which I've never seen before. I wonder if this may be indicative of the truss-rod being to tight or loose. I live the northwest (Washington) & it is starting to get a bit cold. She stays in tune during my playing sessions but I'd still like to get a handle on it. The intonation is dead-nuts on.. it must be the temp swings, what do you think?

Nice collection there FRANZONI. I love the SG 2000. On my G.A.S. list.
Sadly, I can't afford to keep adding to my guitar collection. It would be nice but I keep buying BOSS pedals so never get my budget up!
One day...one day... (once I get a complete BOSS collections )
I do love the 52 RI Teles though. That will be my next guitar purchase!
Thanks for sharing the pics. |

thanks stratman....i never set out to start a guitar collection these are all guitars i've played at some time or another,as i've got older i seem less inclined to sell off my gear even if i don't use a certain guitar/amp/pedal for a while ....i guess i learnt my lesson from when i was younger when i let some pieces slip through my fingers or sold them for silly reasons/moment of madness...now i'm lucky enough to be able to keep them even if the rest of the family think i'm off my rocker... .....i have a big garage/shed i'm hoping to convert next year to a rehearsal space/studio..then i can buy a few more acoustic guitars i've always wanted..ie...a twelve string and a dobro and maybe a keyboard/synth...i aslo wouldn't mind getting my hands on a cheap lap steel.....G.A.S...it never ends.... .....
i had a little helper with the smilies..!! |

My main 2 guitars are a ESP Strat with KFK EMG Pickups (81, 85 and a 20db gain booster) BC Rich KKV with KFK EMG Pickups (81, 85 and a 20db gain booster) I get moments when I use the Jackson RR V (also with EMG's ) I also have various others that are not used as much anymore, but a nice one to play is the Ibanez AXSTAR, I have Dimarzio Super Distortions in the bridge of that one I think it depends on what I am playing as to what guitar I use, I have two Strat shapes NJ BC Rich guitars that are okay, a Mick Thompson signature Warlock BC rich (which I hate.....and it has HATE on the Fret board btw). I guess like I said above and the same with what pedals or rack gear I use depends on what I am playing. All this goes into 2 Marshall stacks one with a 2203 other with a DSL100 Orange crunch head which sound cool running together for stereo!!!!
