Personally I like the CE-5, but it is indeed hard to beat a CE-2.
because i wanted to see if there was a chorus that Boss has that is comparable........... |

I gotcha. I don't really have experience with the Marshall pedal...not much help there I'm afraid.
Still, for me, so far the best has been the CE-5. |

?????.....how many versions of these pedals are there?
how do you tell an analog one? |

| CE-2 is the best chorus I've ever used (and I've had a bunch), simply heavenly sounding! |

| Analog CE-5s typically have a pink label. Same goes for the CH-1. |

Since I joined the boss forum I've learned so much, thanks to y'all, now I know that my ce-5 is an analog pink label 1995 model...don't have a ce-2 but really wanting one. My former band mate has one and have tried it so many times as well, have also owned and sold a CH-1(which I regret), never tried a ce-5 digital though...
You just have to have both CE-2 and Analog CE-5! Both are the best choruses boss has ever made. Think of this...
CE-2 - The Holy Grail - Depthness and Clarity CE-5 - The Dark Horse - A little know chorus thing that emerges to prominence.
Sound wise all the comments for the analog CE-5 in this forum is very accurate, It is thick, goes well with distortion, and very versatile. IMO it really is a modern chorus! And I'm in search for a spare as I gig so much with it.
Sound wise the CE-2 is comparable to the guitar solo on the Beatle's "Let It Be" you can't change a single note, else it won't be the same song.

| Nothing like a CE-2. Mine's seen a bunch of pedals come and go and I still use it every time. That said, I've got a DOD FX-65 that came to me as a rehearsal space orphan a long time ago. It's a good one too. |

I haven't tried the CE2, but I'm not really a fan of the Boss Choruses. A bit cheesy for me/OTT. The best I've heard seems to be the MXR big yellow one, or the chorus part of the Electric Mistress. Depends on what you play though.
I'd try the Supervibe before committing. The Marshall pedals aren't bad, very sturdy, but they all have a metallic sound to them. Not like heavy metal, metallic-sounding. Have a listen and you'll hear it. Same for all of them- which is fine if you like that. It's a tatste thing. I like it in my compressor. |

Will look into CE-2. More transparent. No cheesiness. |

I had the FX 65 years ago...+1..i listened to some old rehearsal tapes a few years back and it sounded great plus it's stereo.. part of the reason i got a CE-2....had the hankering of a good ol' analogue chorus.... |

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the DOD FX65 uses the same chip set as the CE-2.

Thats what i heard as well...plus the boss even though it's mono is a bit quieter in the hiss dept than the older Dod stuff..i find the older Dod pedals effect your basic tone slightly even when the effect is off....but soundwise the FX65 is a good chorus pedal... |

The CE20 is a rather good.
The Dimension D settings are wonderful in stereo. |
