I have told you about Digitech Bad Monkey before in some other topic, but I have to do it again as I noticed something very usable on this unit. Firstly Bad Monkey is one of the best sounding ODs I ever heard, in the Tube screamer area, but more transparent and dynamic, and its retailing price is very low (about the same as an SD-1 in Sweden), its very well built, heavier than Boss pedals (really sturdy). One thing that comes to my mind is that its maybe not as beer-friendly as Boss pedals, beer can quite easily come in the battery compartment if youre not careful The sound of Bad Monkey is very close to a good Tube Screamer, when using the two (this is great too) tone controls around the middle settings. The output volume is much more than a Tube Screamer, this is also good. The trick to get this pedal sound even better, suppressing the mid hump associated to Screamers (well, this hump is good in many situations), is to set both tone controls on or near max and then back off the gain a bit. Then you have something close to the crunch mode on SD-2, very good sounding and great to push a tube amp into tone heaven. So, even if youre a total Boss freak you should try this baby out! You get 3-4 of them for the price of one Reissue TS808! Theres a lot of talk of Bad Monkey in Sweden, people put their boutique pedals aside for it. Someone else had good/bad experiences of this pedal? I think Dr Bob also liked it.

Hi Goran
My Bad Monkey Kicks some serious Butt; I love it. I to, put my vintage Tube Screamer into storage.
The one I have is a USA made MIUSA But I've heard that they moved production off shore to some Jap. or Asian country. I was told that the pedal, still sounds, EXACTLY THE SAME! And boy is this pedal heavy - (in weight).
But recently, I have fallen in tone lust-love with my Dod Mystic Blues Overdrive. An accidental find. Nothing else I own, sounds like this pedal running into my Fender 75
I will try your suggested settings, for the Bad Monkey.
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Goran Like I said in my previous post. They sound exactly the same & the quality is the same. I didn't even know there was a MIUSA and MIC, versions till, my friend showed me both. He runs one into the other for a Boost Overdrive or saturated a overdrive sound. I have heard or others doing this with the Bad Monkey, & having positive comments.
We should mention that the Bad Monkey is really cheap and the it has both Treble & Bass tone controls, where the Tube Screamer only has a treble Cut control. This make the Bad Monkey Very versatile.

Well, Quality Control is not that good in China my Monkey has started making funny noises, cracking and spitting I suspect a bad solder inside, and its very difficult to open up this pedal. But anyway, I will have a new one, guaranty. Hope the new one holds together better Still a great sounding pedal!

Hi Goran Sorry to hear that your bad monkey getting a bit sick. Remember that it is built with surface-mount components.
The new replacement one, might be made with lead free solder, as in RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances)
I got a S/h Behringer delay pedal & it became, my first lead-free pedal. I don't know how it will hold up, over the coming years.
