When did Boss start making their pedals with the black knobs, for how long , and when did they stop using the black knobs. I have a BF-2 with the black knobs and I'm just curious about the time it was made.
I believe that the BF-2 was the first pedal with this style black knobs. That means they were introduced 1980. The only other pedals I've seen with these knobs are the VB-2 and CE-3.
I'm not sure when they replaced these knobs with the ones with coloured tops. The first pedal to use the coloured knobs are the DD-2 and HM-3. These came 1983. I suspect that the BF-2, VB-2 and CE-3 continued to use the black knobs up until the production was moved to Taiwan December 1986. I base this on the following observations (or lack of observations): - I've never seen a VB-2 with anything else than black knobs (VB-2 was produced up until 1986) - I've never seen a Made in Japan BF-2 or CE-3 with coloured knobs. - I've never seen a Made in Taiwan BF-2 or CE-3 with black knobs.
I figure that the Pedals given to me (SD-1, BF-2, DD-2, PH-2) were all bought around 1984, except the DD-2 which I think was bought around 86 ( It's a blue label DD-2) but it's so hard to date anything from boss. thanx for the info.
