Hi The_Doc

Sure does look like a Rangemaster clone.

Nice looking old pedal BTW.

Can you please tell us what numbers are printed on the transistor?
It looks to be a Silicon type by the T0-92 package.
The early Rangemaster's used a Germanium transistor, the early ones were the OC44 -- OC71 types.

Thanks Dr.Bob.

The numbers printed on the transistor are very faint but I can make out 2N4061 or it might be 2NA061 - I can't be sure.

There is '11' plus a red dot on the other side of the casing. Not sure if that helps.

Hi The-Doc

I manged to locate the datasheet (.pdf) for the 2N4061.
It's a PNP general purpose AF SILICON transistor, of low to medium gain.

PM me if anyone needs or wants it

Thanks Dr.Bob - a low/med gain silicon transistor does stack up with the sound it makes - you do get a bit of the silicon fuzz feel when it's through a really cranked amp.

Here's another odd one - a treble / bass booster this time. It's a familar design (Dan Armstrong) - really cool thing is the wood effect box it comes in - cardboard in reality! There's a very nice sweet spot on this one but not much else - not really an out & out treble booster, I've no idea how old it is - impulse ebay buy:

Hi Right Foot Boss

Cool, a SS (Silver Screw) Maxtone....

But seriously, how does it sound?
And how does it compare to a DS-1?

Any chance of some internal pics?

Regards Dr. Bob

Compared to my 81 MIJ it pales. Really only does one tone. The tone knob is more like a volume knob for tone. Not nearly as responsive to picking style as a DS-1. It can be slightly bassier though, if that is a word. I'll post some pics once I find my camera.

Sorry to reserect an old thread here, but I wasn't a Bossarea Forum member the first time this one did the rounds...

I recently acquired this thing (the "Sitar Swami"):

This pedal is a big old bundle of ridiculous. That's why I love it. It's a multi-effect with light fuzz, heavy flanger, slight echo and a glitch prone octave splitter. The really funny part about this is that you have absolutely no control over any of that stuff. What Danelectro decided you are allowed to change is the EQ and volume. That's it. Whomever decided that these settings are so good they don't need to be changed is either a crazy fool or an axe-wielding evil genius. Only the most delicate playing on the higher strings seems to get anything even roughly akin to a sitar sound from this thing (the included way-too-small-for-the-average-finger glass slide helps a little).

You can get some awesome trippy ambient droning out of this thing if you play sparsely. The octave splitter freaks out and glitches beautifully when you play chords.

I wouldn't gig with this, but it's fun to play with. I have managed to get a few wierd noises from it that would be at home in experimental electronica... very wierd when coupled with a PS-3.

It's built like a tank and the artwork is very cool. However, I would probably appreciate it more if I were a massive stoner...

I'll bet Goran would love that pedal.

It even has a PEACE symbol ...
The graphics look to like they were hand drawn with a felt tip pen.

I guess it's pretty rare, Dano probably only made about 10 of them...

They have become a real collectors item... believe it or not $100 is a very good price!

I can only assume that Dano realised pretty quickly that this was a ridiculous effect and discontinued it promptly, thus making it extremely rare... Ironic really - it's sought after because it is terrible

I downloaded his new album earlier and had a quick listen (I'll give it a better listen on the weekend).

I agree. I think Goran would be able to use it to great effect... and yes, the plastic peace sign is just fabulous. Very kitchy cool

The Swamis were being blown out locally a couple years ago.. $50CAD. Some went for half that. VERY weird pedal. Same goes for their "Shift Daddy".. a bizarre car-shaped wah-style flerby echo pedal..
