Hey guys, are there different black screws?
I was checking out my pedals and noticed a few had differences.
On some the black part sticks out further because the head is taller than some others I have.
Not a big difference, but a difference.
I didn't compare years or or anything, I just thought there must be something to it.

yes there are, in the bossbook there'a picture of 3 different blackscrews, the thickest is the oldest. And so there are a few different silverscrews also.

Is there any way to tell if the screw in my pedal is the "original" one? I have a DS-1 that has a silver screw, but in another thread it was mentioned that it needed a "long hyphen" to be a genuine silver-screw unit?

Thanks,
Laurie.

Thanks "sp-1",
So, where can I get this book?
I have been collecting pedals for some time before I joined this forum but never got into the details.
I just would look for Minty Japan pedals til recently.
Sounds like that book will help me out.

I don't know if there's any overlap, if they used the ss longer after they changed to short dash.
I'm sure bossarea will help you out if you got the serial number of you ds-1, he knows when they changed from ss to bs.

The change from silver screw to black screw was made simulateneous with the change from 4-digit serial numbers to 6-digit numbers. For the DS-1, all silver screw models should have the long dash. The long dash remained until around serial 13xx00.

Ok.
Sorta on & off subject here.
My June 79 CS-1 and my April 81 CS-1 look identical except the 79 has the silver screw.
Dash is identical on both pedals.
Did they make a long dash CS-1.
I'm probably lost here? (As Usual)
Please set me straight!

lauries2:

The benefit of your frankenstein is that if you put a black screw on it, you have an extra SS (for the next frankenstein you find, in the wrong direction).

On the same note.. should my black screw CS-1 (#0500 April 1981) have a silver screw??

I bought that CS-1 off StratoSphere on ebay.. Where's my SS?!?

This is precisely why I bought the PV-1: spare silver screw.

The CS-1 never had a long dash so they will all look identical. 0500 is the last 4 digit serial number and it's possible that it could have had an original black screw. It's impossible to say for sure.

I understand scrappy1's od-1 with serial 0500 is nos and it has a blackscrew, so it's possible that they switched to blackscrews around that time.

Did they use the "Type 1" label on black screw pedals?
If so, did the early black screws have a slot in them?
I mean it would be kinda hard to use a coin on one without a slot.
