Well, I came back to boss recently, partly inspired by someone on this forum that I know through work, partly out of nostalgia for the pedals I used to own (to cut a very long story short, I gave up guitar for a year or so & sold all my gear in 1991).

It hasn't taken THAT much effort to get back the things I used to have in the mid-80s that I wanted again, all MIJ & in very good condition:

PSM-5, MZ-2, BF-2 (x3), CE-3, HF-2 (x2)

I also just got a near spotless CE-2 (which I never owned back in the day).

Of the rest, I passed on a PH-1R & have seen DF-2, SD-1 & OC-2s around. Oddly enough I haven't yet come across a non-battered DD-2

I've yet to see a DM-3 or DC-2 that's in acceptable condition or for non-ridiculous money , though I'm only really interested in the DC-2 now...

I picked up my DD-2 about 9 months ago and it is in great condition! You'll find one eventually. Craig's List here in Portland has MIJ pedals every so often... I'm the one who usually snatches them up!

this thread goes to show what you are thinking and actually writing down are too different things ... I know there's stuff on ebay all the time, but i'm talking about pawnshop scores, like $50 for a DD-2 $30 for MIJ DS-1 ... about a year ago was my last find, a PH-1 for $20; turned out to be broken but lots of headroom to get it fixed ... seems I just haven't been able to get some lately.

Laurie ... that is a very cool dd-2. Fender and Gibson charge 1000 to relic something and u got that relic at no xtra charge! (never mind the troubleshooting and repair that probably didn't take much time, eh!

I think too many people have realised the value/quality of their gear. Now when I see silver series squier for 300 pounds and above it makes me a little sad.

Plus we've kinda done it to ourselves a little.
Most of that stuff gets hyped on forums like ours thus
upping the prices.

That isn't really an issue on this forum, there's others
that are way worse but still, if you see how often the Bossarea site
gets quoted or linked in Ebay ads about Boss products, it makes
me wonder.....

True, but if it wasn't for this forum I would know nothing about pedals and maybe I would end up buying a lot of crap until I could find something useful... Just the way it used to be before the internet!

On the other hand, there's a lot of people out there trying to sell their pedals, and more units on the market makes them cheaper ( Adam Smith). If we relax a little and stop paying WHATEVER it takes to get some pedals it will be better. You never know.

Exactly my thoughts, I still can't understand why someone would pay some 150+ dollars/euros/whatever currency for an old pedal just because a bunch of people on a forum call it collectible.
It's still an old pedal maybe worth 25 if it wasn't a so called collecters item/rare unit/holy grail, if you catch my drift.

I see old CE-1's go around for 350 or more, and while it may be a very cool pedal, I would never pay that much even if I wanted it real bad.
I mean, come on... It didn't cost that much back in the 70's.

One could argue about collectors value, but just because someone is willing to dish out that much cash, does that mean someone else who would like one of those pedals as well, but can't afford it has to pay that much as well, while the real value is maybe a fraction?

{Forgive me the rant, I'm on killing spree again }

Well, I've seen from other posts of yours that you are a very practical person. I am too, but I also have some sort of interest in collecting... But not at this level!! My main target is to get the sound I want to in my performances, that's why I bought a cheap MIJ DS-2 in mint condition, took it out of its box and stuck it on my pedalboard where others maybe would have purchased another one and keep this one in its original state.

You can see in the ebay section of the forum this topic

http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9161

A guy in Ebay is selling a CE-2 from the batch #0000 at 350 USD just because he has seen another pedal of similar conditions going for that amount of money. There you have the effect of what we're doing here!
