I extensively tested the WH1 against the WHII.
Guess what? They use the same sound processor.

+1 great and very honest review...i like the whammy as an effect but i think it is a bit of a one trick pony..Gilmour,Satch and Vai have really explored the possibilities of this effect and it's hard to use it without sounding like them..i think the version 1 has the mojo with the fact it is the original IVL design and chip...i always an keep an eye out for the digitech rack unit like the IPS-33b which also doubles as a harmonizer with the option of a external foot controller for the whammy effect....not something you would use very often but i reckon it would be fun especially doing the harmonys for Lizzy/allman/steely dan type things......... |

To add to my review - I pushed the WH-1 to the limit, to make it squeel etc, and the WHII set on the same mode, playing the same phrase on the guitar, sounded identical. The hiss in bypass mode, is identical and yes, they both need a true-bypass mod if you are a purist. They sound the same. The WH1 has a slighly bigger feel to the sweep, and does 'feel better' to play. The WH-1 case looks uber-cool on your pedal board, and oozes mojo compared to the II, but you are right Franzoni, because this is an UN-intelligent pitch shifter, you can only freely use Harmony+1Oct-1Oct, 1 or 2 Oct UP, and 1 or 2 Oct Down, 2nd Down, and the detune effects, whenever you want; the other modes, you can only use selectively because you cannot assign a key to them, like you do with the Boss Harmonist.
The WH-1 has mojo in spades, folks, but for sound, don't be fooled by all the hype around the WH-1. A WH-II will do the sounds you want, and if you read the ads from 1994, they even say they use the same chip but made it foot controllable and added the leds so you can see your patches. Both circuts were made by IVL in Canada, IVL by the way STILL makes pitch-detection pitch shifting technologies for Digitech; the trick they have instantaneous real-time sampling/shifting/regeneration and it is all in the newer Digitech mfx. |

This just arrived in the mail (sorry about the poor quality pic):

It works perfectly. It looks used and has a little rust on the edges but nothing major - it's in pretty good condition.
The best part is that I only paid $80 Australian for it. Bargain!
I already have a POG2 which I think is a better pedal (more control and EHX have tweeked the effect a little). Now I'll be able to split my organ sound through my bass amp (sub octaves) and my guitar amp (+octaves)... awesome. |

Well i got the special deal of $1700 rather than $2000, which in (GBP) isn't too bad. i think there are about 700 so far with a production run of 1000 estimated.
Need to sort out a case for it though as the $500 Moog case is a bit expensive (especially when you add import tax). |

I saw these on stages over the years with some big acts but i was never sure what they did....i think adam clayton in U2 used one and Geddy Lee from Rush as well...are they designed more for bass players...?.... looks pretty cool.... ....if you did basic woodwork in school you should be able to throw something together with a sheet of ply, some 2x1" and a few butterfly locks....if your going to be transporting it around it would be a shame to get it damaged... |

Apparently it weighs nearly 22kg (47lbs) so i'm going to hire a roadie i think .
Yes Rush used them - in fact it's the Prog bands that made this famous: Yes, Genesis and also The Police (Sting had two, Andy had one). They really are the ultimate bass synth, leaving your hands free to play bass or guitar.
Actually this version adds a fair bit over the originals: MIDI, arpeggiator, LFO, patch memories and looks a bit sexier than the original.

Not sure what to do about a case yet - the Moog one is $500 plus import taxes, so i will try and get a cheaper local (UK) alternative. i definitely want to use these live though. |

I used to work in the building game and i've made a few bits and pieces for myself...if you don't fancy aving a go yourself a local carpenter or cabinet maker at the moment is probably on a slowdown so i'm sure they would be willing to do a deal..make sure you shake hands on a price first.... .... |
