I've been looking at buying a tube head for a while, but after I compare different brands, I keep coming back to a Mesa.
I found a great deal here, but what would be the consensus from other folks here on bossarea:

Yay or nay? |

| It's a great head, but the price seems way to high for a used one. i Would like to see 1000-1200 for it |

Agreed. It should be about $1000 for a "good" deal.
Mesa's rock. |

It looks to me that the $1400 is for the half stack. If that's the case, I'd say it's a good price. I purchased my Triple Rectifier Full Stack back in 98, and it was $699 for each cab then. I custom ordered the full cabinet armour, and that was another $300 per cab. The diamond plate is stainless steel and I don't have ta tell ya how much they weigh! Mine's the older 2 channel version, the triple rec. refers to that it has 3 rectifier tubes, were as the dual rec. refered to silicon diodes or the vacuum tube. As Laurie says they rock!!! P.S. The Triple Rec. Has 6 6L6 power tubes for a measured 157 watts, the Dual Rec. Has 4 6L6's for a little over 100 watts. |

It's priced as a half stack but maybe I could haggle with the owner, depending on the condition of everything when I see/test it out later this week.
Hopefully all checks out and I could give my Marshall mode 4 a new home, it was a great head but I have always wanted the tone of a mesa |

I don't think you will be disappointed. Although on mine I usually run the clean channel and get my crushing metal tones from a Digitech GSP 2101 preamp. It's stereo and the other channel goes to my Marshall TSL100 full stack, again on the clean channel. I think my neighbors have started a petition to have me evicted from town! |

Dual rec's are the sound of Metallica man!
We still could use that headbanging smiley, this banana making the metalsymbol on the back of whatever it is, just isn't metal enough... |

Hi JCDenton6
It's really hard to go wrong with any Boogie. I used to run a 50-50 2 unit rack head, no preamp
Worked with just about everything I plugged into or on it. And LOUD takes on a whole new meaning.

I didn't notice that it was for the half stack.the head buy it self can go for 1000-1400.you get the entire set-up for 1400 now seems like a deal, i would still try to get it for less.but it still is a deal |

I'd say go for it ...I've owned my Mesa Dual for years...and never like the sound of it...but after switching the rectifier tubes w/ GZ34's and getting rid of those freakin horrid 6L6's(worst sounding tubes in the world)the amp sounds like a british beast(ah good ole England the land of "real" amp manufacturing)...one thing about these amps that isn't good is the biasing switch doesn't work half the time...they say as long as you buy Mesa tubes you'll never need to bias the amp...(1)Mesa tubes are just rebranded Ruby tubes , any matched tube set will work (2) couldn't tell you how mant biasing resistors i've blown on Mesa's when trying to switch from 6L6 to EL34's...morale do not listen to Randall Smith nor the manual...take it to a tech for major repairs...because once you mess w/ it it's going to the tech anyway... |

Yeah, I thought it was only for the head too. $1400 for the lot is a great deal. |
