My favourite non Boss brands:
* Geoffrey Teese (The Picture Wah rocks and Geoff is a top bloke) * MXR (Love my PH-1 but I think the Phase 90 just edges it phase - wise for me) * Pete Cornish (no I can't afford any PC pedals but I've tried a few and they sound awesome) |

| I like those 808-series Ibanez pedals from the '80's. I have a TS-808 from that era and it's one pedal I can't live without. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you've heard that hype before, but I really love that overdrive! I also love the Fulltone pedals. I have a Deja Vibe and that's a pretty good Uni-Vibe clone. The Fulltone OCD is pretty sweet, too. If you can afford it (and I can't), he makes a sweet sounding tube echoplex. I haven't tried his Clyde McCoy wah pedal yet, but I'll bet that's sweet, too. I can't bring myself to pay that much for a wah pedal, however. |

Well, another vote for the Maxon/Ibanez 80's pedals ( I think the 10-'power'- series, made from'86 to '89, from Ibanez are great bargains) I've just bought a DFL flanger from '85,a precusor to the 10 series, and WOW! And my DL10 delay is the sweetest little charmer. |

| Voodoo Labs gets a vote, but my favourite non-Boss would definitely have to be Analog-Man. Though mostly a modder, he makes some killer pedals, like the KoT, and the Sunface. |

EHX for sure. From the real junk to the wonders, they have a huge choice, often good, allways strange or innovative.
They're as fragile as Boss pedals are strong. They allways break down. But an old EHX from the 70' or the 80' smells just like nothing else... |

Wow, I can't believe Fulltone has hardly been mentioned. But as much as I love the tone, I don't have a real love affair with them due to their prices. Ouch.
You know how cellophane deteriorates on your precious pack of baseball cards? Yeah, that's an Electro Harmonix pedal. Sounds great but it's gonna die, so I don't buy em. Such a shame. |

I "HAD" a hot rod, the distortion sounds are pretty good but it does sound digital you can definately notice it. |

Ammonite, I wholeheartedly agree with you, about the Ibanez DL10 digital delay, I just finished repairing a blown up DL5 and a faulty DL10 - the circuit & components are identical; But the DL5 (SoundTank series) is a much cheaper pedal.
They sound the same as well; I will definitely be keeping both. I still want to compare it with a MIJ DD-2

| I love my Gristle King - hand made by Tim Jauernig (T.C. Jauernig). It's a true-bypass OD with two different modes (two different types of diodes, I think) for vintage or modern flavours. It also has a clean boost as well which can be switched before the OD or after! This gives it the ability to either boost your gain on the OD if before, or boost the volume if switched after! The two pedals can also be used independently - i.e. you can just use the OD, or just the clean boost, or both in either order. Awesome pedal made by a very nice guy who is very approachable and always responds to your emails and is happy to help however he can. Very transparent and perfect for Strats (singlecoil), especially the neck pickup, running into a non-master volume tube amp - e.g. Fender Deluxe Reverb or similar. I used to have a Fulltone Fulldrive II but this thing, IMO, eats it for breakfast! |

That Gristle King sounds really cool! Thanks for the review.
But man I looked it up and is it ever UGLY! Who cares though, as long as it has great tone, right?

Ah... yes... pretty ugly! I'd have to agree with you there. Rather a large enclosure too. When you look inside, there's plenty of room still available but the soldering work is probably some of the best I've seen!
But the ugliness is alright. The LEDs are that bloody bright that they pretty much blind you so you can't really see it anyway! |
