On Laurie's request i put down a picture of my audio probe:

You take an old amp cord and cut off the connector, then put a .1uF non polarized capacitor on the hot lead, i used an alligator clip for grounding.

I'm guessing you plug it into the amp, connect the clip somewhere to the ground on the pedal, and use the cap to poke around. Correct?

Indeed yes. This is a great example of a cheap-and-cheerful (and relatively safe) test tool.

NOTE: not for use on tube amplifiers!!

Ohh... don't use it to probe tube amps. Even if you have a high voltage capacitor in the probe (500V+), it is too dangerous - one slip and you cn have 500 to 800 volts through your fingers.

This type of proble is only good for low voltage stuff... I'd say a general rule of thumb is that if the equipment is powered by more than 9VDC, don't use this probe.

Hi Laurie

I hope you don't think I'm hijacking your idea & thread.

But it was similar to this one.
Yours is immediately functional, but I find, that the pen case make it easier to hold & position.

And then again I have-use BWD & Tektronics 100MHz, switchable probes.
But not every one can afford those.

FWIW, I think BYOC also offers a kit for this very purpose:

I am really not sure how one would properly use this tool, though (unless it is plugged into an oscilloscope?)....
