Just got a Marshall bluesbreaker - the first version. The gain knob only works in the last 8 - 10 position. Theres no change in the sound the first 1 - 8. When measuring the pot everything looks OK. The circuit looks pretty simple so I wonder what else it could be.
Are you certain that it's the factory control? If there are no other problems in the circuit, it sounds as though the taper of the control isn't suited to the application (i.e. logarithmic vs. linear taper).
