| Are these beasts untamable, unruly, noisy POS's as I've been told, or is there a saving grace to them. My first thought is to use as a boost. Feed my head! |

I've not noticed my GE-7 to be noisy. I don't normally use it for boost but it works pretty well that way when I have used it for boost. Normally I cut the mids and boost the highs and lows moderately. With some other pedal setting I do the opposite with boosted mids and zero boost on the highs and lows. I think you can cause some noise used with other pedals depending on your settings if you try but the pedal by itself is just fine. Some combinations of the GE-7 with some combinations of other pedals sound bad but that's not a problem with the pedal its a problem with the setup. I've tried some combinations (I'm thinking of with my DS-2) that sounds really bad but I don't play that way. I think you can make any pedals sound bad if you try.
I don't even use an NS-2. The GE-7 has been one of my favorite pedals. Other pedals I have are noisier. |

Hi the-destructor & Guys
My Old MIJ (ACA) is very quiet. But I have heard some very noisy ones.
There is a simple mod floating around, basically you change the the op-amps for quieter ones.

every time i play a newer GE-7 they seem to get louder and louder.
i had an 82 MIJ for a few years that was really quiet. tried an MIT in 1997 and was disgusted by how noisy and somewhat nasally it got when you started boosting mids/highs. played another new MIT in like 2003 and couldn't believe it got yet noisier. tried another new MIT this past spring and found it to be super noisy.
a lot of this is relative though... if i hadn't owned the MIJ i don't think i'd be as biased. |

I have a GEB-7 from 1995. I had heard the noise stories too but it was only $50 so I thought what the heck. Turned out to actually be OK.

I have no issues at all with my GEB-7, which I use for guitar and not for bass. GEB-7 works great for guitar and is cheaper to buy than GE-7 for some reason |

GEB-7s are probably better for guitar.
they don't squish your low end, have high enough freq response to add a ton of hiss, and "dance around" the nasal midrange areas where the GE-7s has like 3 sliders. |

Hey! Well I used to have a MIJ and the legend says that itīs noisier than the MIT. GE-7 is a tone sucker too. It was a great pedal but it really used to be a tone sucker. |

Do you find that the GEB-7 has a natural compressed sound as well? I really like it, use it mainly for bass, but it sounds great.

i've only played 1 GEB-7. if i remember correctly (it's been 10+ years) it seemed to give a bit of compression if you went for a boost in certain freq's that would normally mud out or overpower other freq's.
does that sound accurate? |

For those who have noisy GE-7's - where do you put them in your chain? I put mine first (no tuner or anything) and don't notice a noise problem. I imagine most people are doing it this way but I'm wondering if pedal position affects the perceived noise level.
Also I use a humbucker guitar and I wonder if a GE-7 on a single coil has anything to do with it. |

Maybe, I will check it. Overal it sounds cleaner and more compressed that a GE-7 or GE-6.
When I tried a GEB-7 for guitar I also felt it sounded great, but most of the time I use it for bass really.
Will run some A/B tests later on. |

I use mine as a preamp/eq for my acoustics and madolin and have never noticed it to be noisy...... the label is gone off the back of it but i'm fairly sure it's MIT and mid 90's cause i bought a lot of my boss pedals around then after my GSP 21 was stolen... |

Hi Franzoni
What sort of setting do you use, in this situation?
And It's good to see that you're back.
