Two things going on here: 1. I've got a drummer. We played together for about 5 years in an old band & have been working together again for the past year. Problem is, we keep having problems with finding someone to play guitar/bass (I'm happy to play either). Seems to be a constant case of "it's always something," other commitments, dwindling interest, age (for the record, I'm 45, but most guys who play punk/alternative in Istanbul are half my age). Also, neither one of us is really connected to the core music scene here, so it has been hard getting the word out - but after going through 3 guys in the past year, it is getting frustrating.
2. I'd been looking for an octave pedal, and recently bought an HR-2 after comparing it with MXR & OC-3. It tracks better & doesn't suck tone, while really beefing up the tone.
When you you have a problem, you look for a solution: octave down from the HR-2 Output B direct into the bass amp, Output A into the other pedals & guitar amp. Tried it out for the first time last night at the studio & I still have a buzz from how well it worked out. The Output A signal did not have to get boasted very much to get my regular guitar sound, while the Output B provided enough low end to sound convincing. (Note: if you have listened to my songs, you know subtlety is not my forte. Bulldozer is a more appropriate adjective. The same thinking has gone into picking cover songs - ex. Black Circle by Pearl Jam & Zero by Smashing Pumpkins).
The HR-2 is genius. |

sounds excellent! i tried that with an OC-2. ran one line from my DD-6 (which was off) into the OC-2 and into a small bass amp. The other line went into a guitar amp as normal. didn't sound the greatest as the OC-2 tracks terribly on chords (i know it's not supposed to tho)
on single note stuff it was great. could throw out a few RATM riffs and sound fairly close!! |

Good question controlfreak I'd be interested in that as well.

| Chords (& notes) start sounding synthethic if the effect level is past 12:00 - I've set both at 11:00, noticeable, but not overpowering. Also, the sound isn't too muddy, at least not because of the HR-2 (blame the Sansamp GT-2 instead), though it handles barre chords better than open chords - I had to turn it off while playing Ziggy Stardust, but because output B was still going to a bass amp, I still had more low end than I would being plugged into just the guitar amp. |
