Anyone know of a source for bulk (i.e. by the foot) audio cable, the type of stuff guitar cords are made from?

About 1/4" diameter, black rubber jacket, stranded center conductor, braided shield -- the soft, flexible stuff that lays flat and straight no matter how it was coiled up beforehand.

I've done some looking around and am not having much luck -- does Belden still make it with a standard catalog number?

C.K.

The only place I know is local and they don't do internet sales.

I used to get DGS cable by the foot from mouser.com, but it's no longer offered. Partsexpress.com has stuff but it's a little pricey. I'm trying to find a good flexible 4 cond + shield and drain wire for a crazy Conklin Bass I have , gonna put a tube preamp IN the bass.

Good Luck

Have you tried contacting Horizon? The company I used to work for ordered everything from them and they have several grades of cable. I don't know if they'll sell direct, but most music shops can probably get it for you.

Quick question, what do you need it for? I abandoned every last one of my patch and instrument cables for George L's. Huge sound quality difference and solderless! I get compliments on my tone every time I play out and the biggest change was my cabling.

i am looking to change some of my patch cables,i have just made a new flight case for my pedalboard and decided to upgrade as some of ones im using are the old multicolour cheap ones you can buy in maplins/radio shack etc...for some reason its very hard to get quality patch cables for pedals like george L's here...one shop had a box set by planet waves where you can make your own it was about 60 euro for ten right angle connectors and some cable.....has anyone tried them.....? i need to make some short cables for the ls2 in my setup to loop the mod/delay effects.....

If you'll note the date of the original post, it was quite a while back, and I had been returning to playing guitar and working with music electronics after an absence of several years from it -- I had just signed on here, and was reestablishing where I could go to get certain things -- online shopping didn't exist last time around. I hadn't located a new source for microphone cable locally; the electronics store that I used to get it from in the old days has since gone out of business. Wasn't having any luck locating it at ham radio swaps either, or any of the parts outlets online I was familiar with for the hobby radio work I do on occasion (I have a small collection of old tube and solid state shortwave receivers).

I've since learned of George L cable, and might well end up going with it, as it's more or less the price I was expecting to get it for, and I can get the cable in bulk without the solderless ends, and then cut it to the lengths I need and put soldered-type Switchcraft plugs on (as Andreas recomends -- http://www.stinkfoot.se/andreas/diy/articles/george.htm ).

Switchcraft plugs are available fairly cheaply from http://www.effectsconnection.com. I'm stating this here so that Basstyra will respond to correct me with the location of someone who has them cheaper, as I'm going to need quite a few for my future pedalboard project, and need all the help I can get.

I'll also check into the Horizon Music site for the cable, though -- thanks for providing that...

I'm not going to kill everyone with a boring dissertation about cabling. I will say this: as soon as I changed my patch cables to George L's, I couldn't rest until I made ALL of my cables George L's. They're that good. I'm reading from reviews that Planet Waves cable kits are just as good, but I couldn't tell ya.
