hey guys, i know everybody raves about the TW-1 but can anybody get any usable sounds out of the AW-2? Every setting seems to be too thin or too quacky etc. It can sound alright but then you disengage it and a wonderfully rich clean tone comes back in!! arrgh!! |

Hi controlfreak
Same here, I thought it was just me, not really getting to grips with the little lady. So put her back in the box for another go, some dark cold & rainy day.
Like you, I would also like to hear from anyone, who has had some success with the AW-2.

I had one for quite some time and never liked it so it was put away in a closset. Recently I tried it again, I needed an autowah for a small acoutsic gig, so what the heck, I plugged in the AW-2 and was very supprised by it's effect. I'm not a purist at all, so I set it globally (no time for a soundcheck either )and I really liked it. I used it one two songs and for that it was perfectly.
Fyi, I'll played a LP studio with a Fishman powerbridge and splitting the magnetic pu's to my amps clean channel and the piezo to the small PA. |

| I'm not sure about the AW-2, but I know I'm about to sell my AW-3 for a Vox or Budda. It's ok, but not my cup of tea. |

i basically only use it with all knobs at minimum and only adjusting the "Manual" control like a filter...and for that i don't mind it cause it's usually when i play tabletop and have a loop going so i can make very gradual adjustments with it...and for this i actually really like it...
but that actual "auto wah" sounds?...no thank you... |

^^ thats my top secret setting!!!!
yea that seems to be the only way to get a usable tone out of it although some of the autowah sounds can be ok. kinda sound like a phaser at mid rate settings.
i know people say this isn't the best EFFECT pedal but its a good SOUND EFFECT pedal if you get me. crazy noises and the like but i'm struggling to find something more musical to do with the pedal. |

I received an AW-3 as a gift a few weeks ago and it is definitely a "different" pedal. Thought about selling/trading but it's funky enough to hang onto for now. That being said, I do have a Cry Baby wah as a real wah.
To take the thread sideways a little... my Cry Baby is a bass wah. I've found that it sounds the best of all the wah's I've tried. I think because it leaves the lower frequencies alone and only applies the wah to the higher frequencies, so a lot of the guitar tone gets through and the wah effect is quite subtle and sophisticated. Has anyone else found this?

I had that old model bass crybaby (GCB-100) and it was the worst pedal I ever had, it sounded dull and it sucked volume when engaged. I replaced it with a Morley dual bass wah, which sounds fine for both bass and guitar. I also compared the dual basswah to the Bad Horsie, and they're really not that much different, the range of the Bad Horsie goes up a little higher but not much.
Try it if you like, it's a pretty agressive sounding pedal that works well with a hi-gain sound, and it doesn't have that typical nasal, crybaby midrange bump thingy going on. |

| Somewhat along these lines... Just got a DF-2 & so far don't find it to be that musical. Still have to do the "rythmic" move in chain scenario, but initially not impressed. I have and use a Digitech Synth Wah & a Digitech EX-7 that are permanent board residents & love them. Also have a Dimebag Wah that rears it's ugly head once in awhile. |

Hi Heart and Soul, In case you didn't catch the obvious here's a link... http://www.digitech.com/products/pedals/SynthWah.php I personally use it in the top of my signal path, before an LS-2 split to a Marshall 8008 rack to Marshall (2)2/12 stereo clean channel or to my dirty stereo setup (Marshall TSL 60 to a Marshall 1960 Lead cab & unfortunately at this time to a Boss MT-2 then Epiphone Valve Jr. to a Marshall VS412 cab to give stereo). Both of these may, or may not go through a series or single rack unit at any given time. Of course there is an arsenal of pedals for both clean & dirty lines & more before the split. The synth wah does your basic auto-wah function + weird-ass synth wah stuff that I could only compare to Electroharmonix octave effects with an auto-wah in front of it. Very unique & a very usauble/or unusable pedal depending on your flavor of the day. "I HOPE" I gave you a little insight. I personally find this pedal extremely usable in my setup. Apologies for starting "AND" ending somewhat 'off topic", but it seemed relevant to the thread. PM me if you'd care to know more.

Just bought one yeasterday, and I like it in another way then my TW-2. This one can do cool effects, not just seem as auto-wah. For example it can do the cool sound of intro guitar on Sonic Youth´s Diamond Sea. A really good song by the way, so go on and listen to it right now! |
