I have the following pedals all running off 9v cords (not batteries).

The LS-2, OC-3, BF-3, PH-3, OD-3, DD-5, & RV-5 all come on automatically when I plug in the wall-wart.

Whereas the TU-2, MT-2, TR-2, & CE-5 do not.

The RC-2 actually stays on when I unplug from the output jack even though it says in the manual the output jack switches the pedal on/off.

So, I'm wondering which other pedals power-up when plugged in to external power, which do not, & why. I've run across some pedal controllers that I assume program effect bank sequences by applying power to the pedals & routing the signal.

Also, since my RC-2 stays on 24/7, is it bad for the pedal? I suppose the compromise would be to wear out the power-plug over the years by unplugging it after each use.. what a pain.

Anyway, odd & interesting yet inconsistent behavior I'd like to know more about.

Whether a pedal comes on automatically or not is determined by the 2 transistors in the flipflop circuit. It is not unusual that pedals of the same type will behave differentntly when powered up. By switching the 2 transistors around you can change the on/off behaviour of the pedal.

I don't think it's bad for a pedal to stay powered on at all times. As with all Boss pedals, it will probably work perfect in 20 years time.

Hi StratoSphere
Have you ever fallen into the sink when you TAP dance?
Your balance must be superb ...

On a more serious note: I have a couple of pedals that do this as well.
One of My CE-2's and the HM-3
I also have a Dean Markley Overlord III that powers up straight away,
whether it running off the plug pack or batteries.
So the problem isn't only endemic to BOSS pedals.

Come to think of it my Digitech Bad Monkey is the same.

I'll have to get StratoSphere to show me some new tap dancing routines.
