Fifty years ago today Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and J.P.Richardson were killed in a tragic plane wreck. |

| I saw La Bamba when it first came out, I believe I was in the 6th or 7th grade, and there was a brief period in time where my 3 favorite performers were Ritchie Valens, Metallica, and GBH...I still like all 3, but GBH is the only one who I still listen to regularly. That new Metallica CD has so much off-key and out-of-time singing that I can listen to more than 2 songs at a time... |

Buddy Holly: the last decent guitar player out of Texas.
On a different note, Don McLean should be flogged for having written such a steaming heap of nostalgia. |

They had a big three-day fiftieth anniversary show in the same town in Minnesota, featuring a star-studded cast.
Some of the people playing there actually recreated the grueling tour from fifty years ago, driving around the extremely cold Northern Great Lakes states in the winter... but I think their buses had heat! Reportedly, it was quite the hardcore experience, lots of miles between gigs.
"American Pie" has grown on me over the years. I never understood all the references to Dylan, The Beatles and the Stones until I was in my thirties and had heard the thing three million times. |

Hadn't realized he was Texan, but not surprised. The sight of him checking his watch to see how much more time he had to kill before the headliner is burnt into my brain, and will forever remain one of the low points of my concert going experiences. |

Au contraire: this is a carefully considered opinion. |
