Hi,
I 've searched through here on this one and it seems to get a bit of a shaky review.
I'm working on getting all the Boss ODs in my arsenal and this one I can't decide on..
One other important point I want to raise is the significant difference in the way pedals are used when reviewed; we need to distinguish between bedeoom and stage volume. All drive type pedals respond differently at cranked amp level. Case in point the good ol OD-1 ... can be fairly ordinary through a SS amp at bedroom level, however pushing a tube amp thats right on the edge......pure sugar!

I dont like the OS-2. Its a bit muddy in my opinion. I guess the pedal is a compromise between distortion and overdrive, but it doesnt really perform well in either mode, or in between.

I guess I have to agree with Sunburst, I bought it about a year ago, tested it, didnt like it and archived it!

I ended up shelving mine as well. The OS-2 tries to be two things and ends up being none of them. Ideally that should make it unique but it fails there too. It doesn't sound so bad but it's so average in every way that I got bored with it very quickly.

I used an OS-2 on long-term loan for a couple of years. I'm not sure I agree with the previous opinions - The pedal can be a bit muddy, but it is tweakable with the eq: I only really used it with the colour control almost all the way to overdrive as I only wanted it to add a little "grit" to my very clean amp: It might be useful for someone who wanted lots of different dirty sounds from one box. In the end, i replaced it with the SD-1 AND OD-3, giving me three different dirt sounds.

Plus points for the OS-2:

- Very wide range of gain
- Massive volume boost

Well I'll be the first one to say I actually like this pedal. I was intrigued by the concept of a single box that could do both an Overdrive and a Distortion, and found this to be almost exactly what I was looking for. It does have a few problems though, the number one problem it has that bothers me is the hiss. When you have it on and you aren't playing it has a noticable hiss. Now, I know what you're thinking it's an OD/Dist pedal, it shouldn't matter because if it's on you should be rocking it. But what about muted parts and rests? Now, when I was using this pedal heavily I did not have a noise supressor at the time, so I don't know how friendly it plays with that.

Also worth mentioning that the OS-2 was Brad Noel of Sublime's distortion of choice running into a sweet Roland JC-120 Amp.

And Joey Santiago of the Pixies still uses one in combination with a Marshall Guv'Nor Mk1 pedal. Let me tell you that the two of these pedals combined are amazing, especially if you're looking for some neat feedback over the top sounds.

Anyway overall if it weren't for the excessive hiss this pedal would stay on my board at all times (with that Guv'Nor of course, which stays there anyway)

Hmm... I guess I'll have to give a thumbs up to this pedal as well. Like anything, you just have to hear it in good context, and your opinions change. My co-worker uses this pedal gigging around town - uses it to boost the drive on his Delta Blues amp. Sounds fracking amazing (I watch waaay too must Battlestar Galactica) onstage. I mean, I've got the pedal, and I don't use it as my main OD or Dist, but I have heard some great tones from it.
