Hi Racer X
First of all: Schematic Heaven has an Echoplex service manual for download. http://www.schematicheaven.com/
A really cool Ecoplex site: Although yo might already know about this site. http://www.regiscoyne.com/echoplex/
Check for: frayed power lead, or a cut/crack in the poser lead. damage where it enters the chassis. damage to the insulation grommet. faulty or missing ground lead. ground switch switched the wrong way around, or switched to off.
Isolate the unit from everything else, & see if it still trips the breaker. Is the breaker faulty - old- worn out. I had an RCD that kept tripping for no known good reason. & in the end, it was a faulty RCD.
Did it get wet or any other mishandling incident that you can remember? Like beer or coke spilled on, or in it?
Hope this was some help. Keep us informed.
Regards Dr. Bob
