Been a good couple of days this week...got my beloved Norman B-12 back, repaired and lovely, from having it's head snapped off ...gave the luthier (my brother) a mint CH-1 (which I just bought - felt good) and he gave me his CE-5 as it wouldn't take A/C power...and then he gave me a DR-55 someone gave him because "it didn't work". I have to admit I had never even heard of the DR-55 before tonight, but it is mint and it just may be that the "doesn't work" thng is related to a bunch of blue-green crud all over the battery clip and spewing from one of the batteries...also picked up my old (original) Deluxe Memory Man (which also has issues) but I'm feeling very optimistic about getting this all to work... |

Hi 4evrnewB
Have you tried the Dr-55 with an adapter? If clean off all the Green gunk spewed from the battery on the battery terminal, it will most likely fix the problem. Unless the battery acid-electrolyte got onto the PCB & ate some tracks or components.
You might have to tin the corroded battery contact with a soldering iron & some solder. Make sure you clean off all the corrosion inside the DR-55, you may have to dismantle it to get at some of the spillage.
Regards & Good Luck Upload some pics if you can?
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hi Dr. Bob - good to see all your input here.
The DR-55 has no facility for an adaptor. I might just replace the battery strap but I'll also have to clean the battery cartridge holds 4 AA's).
I'll take some pix over the weekend. I tried last night but my digicam's batteries died (is this a conspiracy? ) |

| WQell, only if someone wants it! The DR-55 was free - can't beat that - but do folks really want these things? (Actually the 550 lokks pretty cool). |

| Your DR-55 is analog. The website posted above provides one with an accurate representation of the sounds. Effect pedals make the sounds more interesting to me. The Roland TR-707 had seperate outs for each percussion sound....awesome for effects, but the 707 uses digital sounds. |

Hi Progger & Guys
Not only does the TR-707 have separate outs, it has separate level controls for these outputs.
While the TR-707 is a bit dated these days, It's still a great tool, I bought mine back when they were all the rage. I sometimes used to use the outputs, to trigger other modules.
You can do a MIDI (SysEx) System Exclusive dump of your preprogrammed patterns, into & out of your MIDI recorder-sequencer.
I just wish I had of bought the TR-808 & the TR-909 as well.... still theres Evilbay.
Does anyone still record with MIDI? MIDI - Musical Instrument Digital Interface. In simple terms a serial-printer type port & protocol, but Optically coupled to stop earth loops & Hum.
