Hello,
I've got an old Boss ME5 that I bought a few years ago. Unfortunately, this is an old model and some of the switches underneath the foot pedals, don't respond any more. Rather than buy a new floorboard, I wish to stick with this bomb proof bit of engineering. Has anybody here ever replaced the foot pedal switches on the circuit boards of any boss multi effects processor or can anyone tell me what type of switches I need to replace the old switches with?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Michiel

Hi MichielK welcome to the forum. Did you try some contact cleaner on the shafts of the switches? They may just need cleaning. |

Hello,
Thanks for the quick response. I haven't tried cleaning the switches just yet. I'll definitely try some contact spray, but I'm afraid that the switches are just too old. From what I gathered from the guy I bought it from a few years ago, the thing must have been in use for at least 20 years or so. There wasn't any dust in between the switch and the foot pedal when I opened it, the switch on the circuit board takes a few second of holding down to react.

Hi MichielK Welcome to the board from Australia.
From what I remember, when I repaired my friends ME-10 big brother of the ME-5.
The switches that Roland-Boss and other manufactures use small momentary, normally open switches, similar to the ones behind the reset buttons on a lot of old computers. Roland use these types of switches on heaps of their gear, including keyboards & synths.
Sometimes these come in a lager size. you should be able to find a similar switch/s at any good electronics component supplier, if you can't get them direct from Roland-Boss. Just check the height of the switch.
De-solder a faulty switch and take it with you to the supplier.
Maybe email or ask Small Bear electronics in the US if he has anything similar. I don't know any suppliers in your country.
If you can, send a picture to remind me of what they look like, it's been many years since I opened up my friends ME-10.
Regards Dr. Bob
