Hello to everyone.
I just acquired recently a BOSS OS-2 Overdrive/Distortion pedal which has aged (worn and beaten) through the years from gigging from different guitar players who used it.
Anyways, i tried powering it up and it doesn't work. I opened it up and saw one of the foil paths somewhat corroded and looks burnt So, in my excitement, i use a wire to jumper that section. To my dismay, it doesn't still work (no LED indication, no sound too).

Sounds like you-(others) might have accidentally, applied reverse voltage/overvoltage to your OS-2?
And have fried the protection diode-zener.
If you are lucky it went short & fried the track, protecting the rest of the circuit.
It's a common fault.
It's the diode near the DC input socket, under the ribbon cable.
D1 from memory? It feeds C3, just follow the burnt track back to the diode.
Please measure it, & tell us what you find.. Shorted or open circuit?
Post some pics of the affected area.

First of all, thank you Doc, for the quick reply.
I got the pedal as is. So i guess it was accidentally applied with reverse or over voltage that made it non-functional.
I de-soldered D1, a 1n4004 diode, to check if it was shorted or opened. To my surprise it is OK. A reading from my meter says "0.456" in the diode test with respect to polarity.
Doc, is it possible that the ICs are fried as well? JRC1458 and M5218?

Nice Pics, you might want to post them into our pedal internals thread.
Have you tried the OS-2 with a known good 9V battery?
Have you tried it with a regulated 9V power adapter?
Many times, when there has been some excessive current flow & burning of tracks & components;
You might find that the simple switch inside the DC input socket has gone open circuit, by also being burned or corroded by the heat.
This usually stops the pedal working with a battery, & sometimes also with the power adapter.
You will have to check this with a meter.

Hi Dr. Bob,
The pedal is now finally working  .
I opened it up again lately and scrutinized the pads and foil path. As far as my eyes can see, anything that seems shorted, by way of solder bridging, i tried desoldering/soldering it and making sure that no excess solder has built up on the pads.
I also checked the DC jack and battery terminal and it seems OK as you have instructed.
Bottom line, it works now.

Thanks for the update;
And saving another Boss pedal from landfill...
go buy yourself few  or nice coffee's, what ever you drink.
That's twice I have written that today, the other one was " member autoprod's) DD-2.

So was it basically just a bunch of solder splashes (shorts) on some tracks?

Hi Dr. Bob,
With regards to solder splashes, its a habit of mine to check on solder traces and making the assumption that due to numerous times the pedal being used and abused, i considered cracked or cold soldered points. So i soldered some that looks like it needs one 
And yahoo, it worked!
