As I have up to 95% only owned/used Boss ods and distortions over the years I would be very interested in opinions on other makes (or Boss of course).
Shortly; the best od/dist you ever heard.
My favourites are SD-2, BD-2, Stinkfoot DS-1 and TS 808.

nice thread Goran!
I like the BD-2 and OD-1. Though I have a soft spot for the PW-2 also. Don't know about others as I use mainly Boss

the fuzz on my Shin-ei companion fuzz wah is unbelievable. it sounds like you squashing a bug. BUT IT HAS NO AC INPUT!!!! and i hate batteries.
the best Boss OD/distortion besides my secret combo , would have to be the SD-2 because it can just do it all.
the MT-2 as well, but you need a few other pedals to make it sound good |

I have the BD-2 and DS-1. However, my main "fuzz"-box is Line6 AM4. It has 4 easily programmable buttons. - Set a sound and push a button 4 sek. Done!
Actually it is a Amp Modeller so clean sounds have also different caracter depending on what amp is choosen. I never used a Fender Champ or any of the other amps so I dont know how close the box actually is, but as a dist-box it works fine.
There is also a noise gate that can be turned on/off per button, and a morphing function to change the sound with a connected exp-pedal.
If you live in Sweden you can check if they have any left at Estrad on Folkungagatan where they had a sell-out of these for 1500kr. |

I've been looking at the General Guitar Gadgets clone of it, I've heard of it mainly because William Reid of The Jesus and Mary Chain used one and I really like his guitar sound. The General Guitar Gadgets one has an AC input and true bypass |

| In all honesty, the ProCo Turbo Rat. It had the exact OD sound I was after, and it covers most any distortion need as well. And while I was always quick to doubt the age old stigma, the older ones really ARE better. In second place would be my original Marshall Blues Breaker pedal, and after that theres the PW-2, ProCo Vintage Rat, TS-9, DOD 250...I could go on for far too long with this.. |

I suppose it is hard to say what is the best OD/distorion pedal, since different guitars and amps can yield different tone in conjunction with any given pedal.
Over the years, I have collected a bunch of OD/distortion pedals and half-rack units. There are quite a few of them that I like very much. In no particular order, they are: Non-RI EH Big Muff, Boss HM-2, Boss ROD-10, Rockman Sustainor, Marshall Bluesbreaker (first edition), Marshall Gov'nor (first edition), ProCo Rat R2DU.
When I play outside of my home, the OD-20 is the one I would take with me.
One thing I have never tried, though, is to hook up all these pedals and have them all on. I wonder what would happen.... |

Hi Kulten I just fixed one of those Do you find that, in boost mode it almost pops the cone out of the speakers on you amp. Great sounding fuzz pedal.

| I do, I use the boost mode behind my HM-2 for feedback and more gain, but once the HM-2 wasn't on, and my amp was pretty loud, and I'd left the Hyper Fuzz in Gain Boost, with full gain. When I played a chord I went deaf for 2 seconds (I was a foot from the speaker, and the amp is at my head height when I sit down. |

Hi tomwest Thanks for the great tip.
I find that the level control has no or almost no effect, when it's in boost mode. I gather that this is the way the FZ-2 works? And not a fault I still missed while I was repairing it.
I don't know anyone else, who has a FZ-2 to compare it with, other than you guys, of course.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Yeah the level control isn't meant to work in gain boost - the gain knob does the volume |
