Hey fella,
Well, mark one failed, big style. Still waiting to get a soldering lesson from the spark in work, then I'm going to have a stab at mark two. I may also buy like a confidence builder kit or something to get some practice in. Will probably be after I've been on holiday.
Shall keep you posted!

Dasbeef - If you've got the facilities to box up a circuit, I could send you a ready soldered working One Knob Fuzz board for a few pennies: I bought extra parts to make 3 more. I'm currently putting one circuit into a micro size box like this for myself (no room left on my board for a full size box -

But that leaves parts for two spares...

Thanks very much for the offer man, but I want to learn to do this myself. If I got you to build it, it would just encourage my laziness.

I'm not familiar with your DC-In Sockets?

Did you select the BC Transistors for Hfe (gain)?

Wonderfully compact... we should have a 'smallest pedal' competition.

The DC sockets are the standard type available here in the UK, carried by Maplin and Bitsbox.co.uk (my usual parts source). Here's a picture of the actual socket in isolation:

It's a bit of a pain to rout the correct cut-out as the shape is unusual, but it's actually pretty tricky to source regular circular plastic DC sockets in the UK believe or not. Next time I order from Banzai (European website) I'm going to get a batch or the circular ones and save myself all the effort with the needle file.

I didn't select the tranistors, just went with whatever was lying around: I'm not certain how much difference it would make to this particular circuit, it's another Coloursound One Knob and it's pretty raspy and gated whatever you do...

I get my parts from Rapid and Farnell most of the time. Rapid sell the larger-diameter circular plastic DC inlets:

http://www.rapidonline.com/Cables-Connectors/Connectors-Mains-Power/DC-Power-Connectors/DC-Power-socket/63543

I have to drill an 8mm hole and follow up with a 12.5mm punch. Rapid sell the punches too. Farnell are better I think, but they tend to be more expensive.

Thanks for the link. I've looked at Rapid before, but have always been put off by their high postage costs (5ish minimum versus 1.50 for Bitsbox no matter how much you order), and Farnell charge 6.37 for the socket alone!

Rapid do free delivery on orders over 30 ex vat, and Farnell on orders over 45 inc vat. Farnell sell those sockets in bulk packs, so for 6 you get several. They're still cheaper at Rapid though.

I find Rapid tend to concentrate on the cheaper brands, whereas at Farnell you'll get things like Panasonic caps. Some of the branded stuff is stocked by Rapid - Switchcraft jacks, for example - so I find a mix & match of both suppliers works for me.

Maplin have panel mount power supplies that are circular if that's any help.

I can only find metal ones on their website and in the store - Are these the ones you mean? You can't use these with a standard negative ground pedal design wired for a centre-negative BOSS-style 2.1mm socket as they short out the power supply - Thanks alot, BOSS

ps - If you put one of these in your fuzz build, this might be the only reason it's not working.
