I am a huge fan of Blood Sugar era Chili Peppers. Is Frusciante's solo stuff anything like that? Any particular songs or album you think I should check out?

Hehe.. JF's board comes up once every 8 months or so. Its good for the newcomers.
I'm sure he has bought & added since the pic was taken including a couple Moogers not represented: (MF-102 Ring Modulator, MF-104 Analog Delay, & MF-107 FreqBox).
It would be great if we were able to see artists actually playing & stomping so we could put 2 & 2 together in how they get their sounds. Unfortunately, we usually watch from the crowd in a dark venue.
Here's a couple more pics:

Nathu I would recomend the two albums curtains and the empyryean, I think that's how you spell it. I pretty much like all his solo albums, apart from the early ones he made in the 90s when he left the chilli willys and was all crazy on heroin.
I swear that on the dvd RHCP live at slane castle I can see a xt2 on johns board...
You can see him working his board a little on this dvd. I love watching it, I never get sick of it =) |

None of his solo albums sound anything like the chili peppers stuff really. Some of it's more electronica like 'To Record Only Water For Ten Days' and then there's 'Curtains' which is all acoustic. You should definately check some out, I'd recommend 'Curtains' and 'Shadows Collide With People' to start with.

I don't think he's ever used a XT-2, but he did use a PSM-5 around that time, I think. And he also used a DM-2 during some of the Stadium Arcadium tour. Here's a good place to check out all his gear from over the years:

After resolving a few technical issues in the early going, all 147 pedals were hooked up and functioning with no noise and clear guitar sound coming through the amp.
Yeah I'm 100% sure, a "True Bypass Looper" fixed all their Technical & NOISE issues (bypassing - Guitar's output, directly to the amps input).
Still It's an awesome sight, seeing all those (147) pedals all in one place.

Hateandwar, I picked up The Empyrean and have had a quick listen... I was a little worried by the first track (a 7 minute self indulgent guitar solo!... not that I disliked it, but I wouldn't want to listen to a whole album of that). To my relief the following songs were all awesome. It's a good album. I like it. Cheers for the recommendation
rhcp_1005, I have been looking for a copy of 'curtains'... might have to go online for that... I like the idea of an acoustic Frusciante album. Definitely need to check it out. Cheers Mate.

Whats wrong with 7 minute guitar solos...sounds a bit short to me........ ..just as a sidenote ..i used to have the same/or similar delay to frusciantes...i thought that model was a 2002 or something..... rather than a 1002 (can't really remember exactly... rock n roll lifestyle, old fart etc.... ).......one cool thing about them was/is the second footswitch lets you hold the phrase you've played and play over it..a bit like what eric johnson does when playing solo....good delay pedal.... |

They're digitech pedals, aren't they? I think Frusciante uses the 1002 model and there's also a 1000 model as well. I wouldn't mind getting one but some on ebay seem to have quite a high price tag. |
