ROTFLMMFAO=rollin' on the floor laughin' my mother f* ass off. Sorry, I invented it
The Mesa Roadster sits while my (medium to mild) carpal flareup subsides. I can't use my pinky for scales! Should clear up in a week. I miss playing.
I need to review my I Need a Tube Amp thread again.. my son is buggin' me for one.
Cheers |

Thanks for the reminder DeFrag, when I got my Les Paul, I played and played until I got tendonitis and my wrist was sore all winter. So I learned to rest my hands often, and roll the kinks out of my shoulders etc. A new Guitar, amp, or pedal can do it to ya, If you like it a lot and dont rest until your tired or sore. I hope your pinkie gets better soon. |

Hi Defrag
Here are our recommendations according to your son.
Mesa TTTripple Rectifier head with Twin 4x12 cabs, with the checker-plate sides. 8 Feet high, I just loud enough for the young crowd.
He should be fairly happy with that lot. Oh I forgot --- dad's mini van to lug it all around in.
Regards Dr. Bob

I tend to spend a bit more on myself but knowing my son is looking forward to a career as a rock star, I'm veering toward a 2x12' tuber.
Tks for the thoughts re:wrists :)

Last night 1:30 AM; the new amp produces the ear splitting howl, this set me to uttering some exceedingly vulgar ephitets in both official Canadian languages. I spent this morning driving, through the never ending rain, from music store to music store on the search of EL84s. The closest store to me, a national chain (L&M, canadians know who I mean) only had Groove Tubes and only 3 of them for 70 bucks. To top it off they weren't matched, 2 of them were rated 6 and 1 was rated 5 so I didn't buy them. More exceedingly vulgar ephitets, and off to the Peavey dealer. He said that the tubes had gone microphonic, because when I gave them a little tap with my finger it would result in a clinky noise. 2 of the 4 power tubes did this. One of the 4 power tubes had already been replaced with a Groove Tube, and the Peavey place had a set of 4 matched Groove Tubes (5 rating) for $49.99, so I bought those. I replaced all 4 power tubes, and saved the old Groove Tube for a spare as it is rated 5 as well. I didn't really want Groove Tubes, but they are all that were available without ordering them in. Anyway the amp is now working real good, and once my head clears from todays information overload and lack of sleep I'll google the word "bias" and see what thats all about. |

first off check out that guy kevin o'connor at london power..the matched output tubes in his opinion is all hooey.... as for biasing an amp...this is something i woulnd't attempt myself as from what i've read you can seriously shorten the lifespan of your tubes if too hot,and the sound can get a bit naff if too cold..i know this isn't quite kosher advice but i normally drop in the same make of output tubes and i haven't had any major problems without a bias being done..... |

I found out that the bias isn't adjustable on the Classic 30,and most of the mods involve changing resistors in the bias circuit. Non-adjustable bias suits me fine, the simpler the better IMHO. I did check the Kevin O'Connor site and found some good info. You are correct in stating that I was about to learn a lot, indeed there is a lot to learn about tubes. Anyway with the four new power tubes she's working real good. I still have one question. when I play at home I sometimes only get a couple of songs an then I get called away, is it better to leave the amp on or does it hurt it to turn it off and on, 3 or 4 times a day or more? |

I'll keep the Bandit 112 for a spare and I'll use the Renown 212 for vocals and percussion(drum machine) |

if the amp has a standby switch and your only going to be a couple of minutes flick it into standby as this saves the tubes cooling down and heating up all the time, also if it has the switch you should put it in standby and let it heat up for a few minutes before using it.....i have a 61/62 selmer stadium 15 watt class A valve amp and it has no standby switch and i find it's a bit hard on output valves...EL84's as well by the way..my marshall and the musicman both have standby switches and i find i get a lot longer out of them.....i'm not 100% on this but i reckon that your amp because it has 4 output valves is whats known as class A/B it's to do with the way the output circuit is designed,i reckon if one of the output valves goes belly up in the middle of a gig,you can pull it and it's twin out and the amp will run on 2 valves...normally the way it works is the outside 2 are a pair and the inside 2 are the other pair....an output valve gave up the ghost at a gig a couple of months back and i was able to do this ..it also took the amps fuse with it..i always carry spares in the guitar case so within a couple of minutes i was able to have the amp up and running.... ..in my experience the majority of the time any problemos is down to the pre amp or the output valves.....as you can probably guess i love valve amps and the whole obsolete technology..... ..one other piece of useless information...... the reason the russians used valves in their miltary equipment for so long is that in tests, valves withstood the electricial interference of a nuclear blast that fried transistors.... so looks like you,me,Dr Bob and DeFrag will be rockin' in the the post armageddon landscape bro'... thats if we can find a couple of petrol jennys to plug into...... ..... |

haha Franzoni!
Damn near bought my son a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 112 yesterday. OMFG.. clean, power, punch. Verb to boot! I cared for the Blues Reissue a bit less. I wonder if its against the law to buy a monster amp within weeks of another monster amp.
I was pushing him toward the Line6 SpiderValve III 112 but after hearing the Fender, I've changed my tune. I figure he'll run some Boss pedals to sculpt his metal but with a clean as an amp as possible, he should be able to do almost anything.
On a side note, I saw a spanking new Schecter Omen 7-string for $250 & didn't buy it. $130 off anywhere else & might find myself running a few hours away to grab it. I should have just bought it last night. Damn. |
