I've told this one before..when we started the band 10 years ago we used to rehearse in the singers shed..one evening i spied what looked like a pedal on the shelf which turned out to be a rocktek phaser...and beside it was ....a MIJ black label DS-1... which he didn't use anymore and very generously let me keep..he also had given away a old marshall 4x12 that was taking up space in his mothers house a while before that........but a few years later i was given what looks like an old Vox PA speaker with two 12" speakers in it which turned out to be celestion greenbacks and thats what i use with the marshall head these days...

I got hooked after getting a DSD-2. I'm up to several compacts including the Stop Light series and the SG-1, VB-2 to complete the Holy Trinity. They're all mint but I plug 'em in and play 'em!

My only story worth telling.

Went into town one morning to have breakfast with some family members. And desided to go to the pawn shop acrost the street to see what music gear they had in cus you never know when you will find a good deal.

Looking through the gear they had I seen a few boss pedals and asked to se them. One was a new MIT ds-1 for (idioticly) $50 usd, and a vb-2 in Far from mint but also far from garbage. I had just basicly began reading info about what rare and what's not. I thought the vb-2 was rare but wasn't sure. Looked it up on this site useing my phone. Found out it was rare and then looked at the price on the vb-2 and nearly shat my pants. $50 buck. Even in it's condition I knew it was worth well over that and got it.

Sadly I don't use it as it just dosent fit in with my playing style.

I wish I could, I just can't figure out how to do it! I take pix with my iPhone and back them up on my laptop. If anyone knows of an app that will resize them let me know. Thanks!

I have told how I started collecting Boss pedals here before, but that was in the first year or so. If you read it before, just ignore.

My son bought me the Boss book as a gift in the early 2000s, and I had used Boss pedals since I bought a OD-1 in the late 70s. I read the book with interest and learned that some pedals was rare.
A little later I was in a music store and they had a SG-1 (silver screw & skeleton switch) in mint condition, but no carton. They wanted about US$ 60 for it, but I complained that there was no carton so I got it for US$ 50. At the store I knew it was rare but I didnt know that this pedal usually cost much more, so I didnt get nervous or sweating, the shop owner hadnt a clue that it was a rare pedal.
This was the first pedal I bought as a collector, so in a way this SG-1 would cost me a lot in the future
At the same store I later found a mint and boxed PN-2 for around US$ 65 and some of the brown bass pedals very cheap.

My first SP-1, silver screw, is also a good story. I found it on an Ebay-like site here in Sweden, the seller wanted around US$ 120 for it and I said OK. Then I got an e-mail from the seller that it didnt work and he asked if I accepted to pay half the price, US$ 60. Of course I did!
When I got it the only problem was a cold solder joint!

Not so funny, for me, was that I paid way too much for my VB-2, nearly US$ 350

My first Boss pedal was a PS-3 in the early 90's. I bought it to use with my drum machine, it was great fun. It was only later that I discovered it was also awesome for guitar...

Back in 1989 both my brother and I were playing, only not in the same bands. I kept it going longer than he did, his band split up, their guitarist got addicted and later OD'ed and so my brother had to keep his pedals.

A few years ago we finished building my brother's new house. After getting settled, he started going through the things that had been stowed away for the last 15 to 20 years. He called me and said he had this bag with some pedals in it, and that he'd bring it over, since he'd stopped playing in 1990. I'm not one to NOT help people out, so I agreed on taking it off his hands for nothing,

In the bag I found a tone sucking Cry Baby that I now have modded, an 80's Marshall switch, a nice yellow cable with neutrik jacks, a Boss CE-3 with a missing knob and.... could it be... why yes, it's a DM-2!
That too needed a knob, but I found one on eBay the day after receiving this bag of goodies.

My DS-1 wasn't my first boss pedal but it was the best story i had... the rest apart from the CE-2 and the BF-2 are just bought of the net or local.... the CE-2 was part of a 3 pedal deal aong with a behringer blues pedal and a HM-2 that cost me 115..and the good part of the story when i flipped it over it was black label MIJ as well....they were going for around 250 on their own at the time local so i landed on my feet on that one...Dr Bob emailed me and pursuaded me to make the drive as it's a two hour round trip to where the seller lived form my house and for the price i expected it to be MIT...glad i did.... i did a similar journey for the BF-2 and the seller was a young guy so i was dealing with his father who turned out to be a former bass player and we knew a load of people in common,he used to live and play in the city but had moved to the country whenhe got married and started a family...he was amazed i had driven so far to buy a boss flanger that was only 50 ....G.A.S. is a terrible thing.........

Iversen... sorry to hear about your brothers former bandmate..i know people who had similar problems with the drink and drugs,a lot of them fine musicians and it destroyed them...some of them managed to turn themselves around but there are still a couple i know who are in self destruct mode and can't seem to break the cycle..it also affects their playing and overall musicianship but it's very hard to try and tell them that as they don't want to know....

The way i got into pedals was like this.
At the time i was playing in a metal band. My drummer kept complaining that the tone coming from my Randall amp was too plain.
And i needed something called a pedal to get some better tones.
He said he once owned a 'metal zone' and it was awesome. So i went and bought one brand new and stupidly paid about $120 AUS for it, just because it was the standard price at the time and had no idea about ebay or anything....and the rest is history haha!

Two years ago I bought a GE-7b on Ebay for 25 euros, I was the only bidder and the seller lived in Holland so shipping was low.

I just picked up a mint SD-2 in the box with the manual for $40 U.S. I thought that was pretty good.
