Hi all here, I'm an italian fan of Boss pedals, this is my first post here and I think this is the best place for Boss stuffs! I have a problem with my DD-5: the MODE pot is gone crazy! When I plug the DC cord in my DD-5 it starts to work normally, but after 10-20 seconds, all the MODE function between 5 and 11 are mixed. For example, HOLD originally is on 5,but on mine is on 5 and also on 6 and sometimes on 7. Reverse is on 6, while on mine is on 7, E/D (7) goes on 8 and only 2 modes of tap tempo works. Anyone has any idea of what could be happened? I suppose it's a chip problem... Thanks in advance!!! |

Welcome to the forum, DS-1.
The problem sounds a bit tricky. Does the pedal work fine for the first 20 seconds? If it does, then the pedal appears to work when it's cold but as soon as a component warms up it fails. If this is the case it is possibel to troubleshoot using cooling spray. Just spray each component and see when it starts working again. |

Hi DS-1
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Does it still play up when using a known good battery?
What type of DC power adapter are you using. Is it fully regulated power adapter? Is it set to the correct voltage, if it's a multi-output one? Are you running other pedals from the power adapter?
Did you have some type of problem with the DD-5 before, maybe it was dropped or something was spilled on it during a gig? Or worse an accident by your dog or cat.
How old is it? Is it still under warranty?
Try it with a new battery & see if it still goes intermittent.
Maybe Christo has some idea's, I don't own a DD-5, Just the DD-2

I'd warrent a look inside to see if its still intact. Does anything look fried? check around the Mode pot, do the contacts look clean, anything obstructing them, them mounted against the chassis? If the DD5 is anything like the DD2/3, theres a 5 sec. delay when you turn it on before the effect kicks in. Then again, being digital, maybe not. |

I think DD-5 works like DD-2/3, infact the LED turns on for 2-3seconds when DC is connected to the pedal, then the LED turns off and you can start use the pedal. I use it with an AC adapter, but i've tried with a 9v battery and it doesn't work, too. Opened the pedal, i've seen that all seems to be in their place, all the connections look good (i bought the pedal used, but it looks really new, inside and outside, so i think it was used few times). The only thing i haven't done is unmount the pots PCB, only because It's not easy to remove the plastic knobs. It's hard to remove and I won't damage it thinking i'll sell it as a "half-workin' delay"... |

Welcome to the forum DS-1. Try cleaning the mode switch with some contact cleaner, maybe there is some dust in it. |

Hi DS-1 Do you mean that it doesn't work at all with a 9V battery? Or do you mean that it has the same fault?

| Sorry for my bad English, Dr. Bob! I mean that the pedal has the same fault with a 9v batteries. I've tried different AC adapter, with different kind of connections (the DD-5 alone, different pedals connected,ecc..), but the result is the same. I have to say that the pedal started to go crazy when I putted it on a self-made adapter bought on eBay years ago, but I think this is only a coincidence, because all the other pedals work well with it. |

I suspect it may be closer to 47,525 IT (Lira) or 24.5442 Euro
Maybe it depends whether you have an authorized service center nearby. |

Yes, here in Napoli, the town in which I live, there is an authorized service center for Roland\Boss products. I'll try to contact him and see how it costs. But...do you think it's a chip failure? |
