I read a review of this drum machine that stated if you use preset patterns, you are locked in to standard tuning for bass lines.
I would like to use some of the preset drum patterns but tune the bass lower.
Is this possible?

I can do it on my DR-3, so I would think that the bigger machine would do it as well. You copy the preset pattern to the user pattern, then re-program the bass line any way that you want. BTW welcome to the forum. |

I decided to pull the trigger and get the DR 880 this week. I haven't tried to copy a preset pattern to a user pattern but tuning the bass to my needs is a breeze. Moving the patterns shouldn't be tough either. There is just so much that this thing can do. Yesterday alone I spent 5 hours modifying presets, adding fills and changing kits.
A really cool feature(s) is that I can plug my guitar directly into the drum machine along with some headphones and that gets me up and running real quick. A major time saver. It also means I can take the DR 880 to work with me and do some programming on my breaks.
With my old Alesis SR 16 I had to set up an amp for the guitar and a small PA for the Alesis.
So far so good. |

| I have this unit and love it. Yes you can go down an octive and up an octive as well, once you learn how to use it, it is extreamly useful, I hope you like yours as well as I like mine. |

Theres really alot you can do with this unit but it can be intimidating at first.I have some other info on the 880 around here somewhere, if I can find it I'll post it. |

| I've been real busy with my band for the last month and have not had time to do much with the DR 880. I plan to get the tutorial you mentioned then get to work. I'll let you know when I have clips to post. |

| Your right about the learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, its really easy. Mostly just knowing where everything is and how to find it or use it. If I can help just let me know, I'm not a pro or anything but use it alot. |

Hey Sloopdawg, any advice on how I can beef up the bass drum sounds? Specifically I am working on a preset in either the hard rock or metal sections of presets but can't remember the preset number.
Anyway, it is a one measure pattern with constant double bass, sporadic ride cymbal and a couple snare hits.
I would like to get away from the "pitter-patter" bass drum sound and get something with more balls, like an Eric Carr/John Bonham type sound. I was born and raised on the Alesis SR 16 and do like some it's bass drum and snare sounds, although they do go over the top at times.
I belive the kit I am using is Power 1. That seems to be my favorite kit so far.
Maybe it's just me, but I find that when using the same kit for different presets, the tone of the bass drum and snare seem to differ from preset to preset. It becomes more obvious in the context of a song. There must be some deeper editing that I have yet to figure out. |

| Hey nibbles sorry I haven't been around for a while, how are you making out? I would suggest maybe eq or something like that its hard to say without having the same parameters on both machines.Anyway keep me posted and would like to hear some beats from you if you get a chance to lay some down. |
