Hi...new user here...old Boss user though I am getting myself one of these...again hehe. Found a schematic for it here! http://www.synthdiy.com/files/2008/BOSS_LM-2.png
Rid, please note: We already have a "Pedal schematics-LINKS ONLY" thread running over here: http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4276 Please post Schematic links into that thread next time. It makes it easier for others to find. Plus it's been made a "Sticky" thread.
And welcome to the forum.

Yeah, I rate the LM-2 as one of the most underrated BOSS-pedals. It works for many things. Right now im using one all the time as a linedriver/booster. It does the job in a nice way. Or as a compressor sometimes.

^that's what i'm using it for too. i keep it on the whole time. makes a great addition to the pedalboard.
i've noticed it really brings solid state amps to life too.
it's hard to make this thing sound bad |

yes, I agree, the LM-2 is an underrated baby.
currently I own an LM-2 (very lucky to have a very clean NOS one, I cascade it to my dirt pedals), and a modded CS-3 (for chicken pickin' clean sound). but I have to hear a CS-2 yet.
stock BOSS cs-3's and mxr dyna comps are a bit noisy, by my experience. LM-2 is dead silent. |

The whole Compressor/limiter issue is quite personal.
I can see people's points about the LM-2 and it being subtle. I think when you start boosting the volume none of the boss compressors or the LM-2 does cut it.
I use an Aphex compressor [punch factory], it does not change your tone when you cut or boost your volume.
I do like the LM-2 or CS1 or CS3 for their tonal apects, but they all change your tone. YEs, LM-2 is nice for its tweakability.
It seems that you need to go through quite a few comressors to start to see what you like.
I have used a DOD which even dropped the orginal orginal sigal, but it gave a nice brightboost, you needed to boost your original level at the end of the chain with a mixer or anything of that kind. Felt that was too much of a compromise. I also use a Korg LM-1 from time to time, nice pedal, but very little volumeboost here.
There is a large Compressor topic somewhere on the site, quite a few compressors mentioned there are of the boutique kind, wouldn't mind to try them as they will probably sound a lot better than what I have heard so far. |
