Late 2007, Boss announced that they've produced more than 10 million Boss pedals. This is how the 10 million pedals are divided between different models. It also shows how many pedals out of the total was made in Japan.
The numbers are based on collecting serial numbers and may not be 100% correct but I think they're pretty close.

| Wow, I never would have thought that MT-2 could have beat out DS-1for highest production number. |

The MIT numbers are pretty reliable but for MIJ pedals I might be a bit off. The MIJ numbers are purely guesswork based onhow often they show up on Ebay.
Actually, I have lately started to think that the DS-1 total is too low... |

in the Oct. 2008 'issue' of Guitar Center's sales circular, they feature an interview with Coheed & Cambria, where they discuss some of their favorite Boss pedals. they also give a brief history of Boss, along with the top 5 best-selling and all-time worst selling Boss pedal. I don't think it would violate Fair Use to scan the top five/bottom one list (see below). bossarea/Dr. Bob, let me know and I will be glad to scan the remainder of the 4-page interview and e-mail it to you, for use at your discretion.

Would love to read the interview. Please e-mail me a copy (borgetx@hotmail.com)
Interesting how the Boss book said there was 9 months PW-2 production and that these guys wrote 8 months. By studying the serial numbers I found out it was 11 months |

What about the DSD-2? It seems to be second most rare.. do you have any serial data on that?
Are the serials constant for the change from -2 to -3 models? hmm.. |

| Pedals like the DSD-2 was only made using the old serial numbering system so the estimate is based on how often one comes up on Ebay and may not be very accurate. I've estimated 10k but it could potentially be twice that. |

| That's because I have no idea how many twin pedals have been produced. The serial numbers will tell, but I haven't gathered any serials for twin pedals. Ebay sellers very rarely includes pictures of the underside of these so it would be hard to find any good data. |

It used to be advertied on the Boss website as "10 Million Compact Pedals Sold," not just 10 million pedals. |
