I bought a GE-7 and had it in the loop for awhile, before i realized i didnt need it, so i pulled it out again to try as told here.
....and im amazed, my crunch channel turned into (as mentioned) a marshall, sligthly compressed compared to my lead channel, i was playing my PRS trough my Koch Multitone, but very smooth and nice distortion. It was instant solo time!! I have only used overdrives for while soo it was kind of fun. I also compared this to a DS-1 MIJ and a Turbo Rat distortion. Without doubt the GE-7 with a "frown" sounded way better, couldnt get the other pedals close.
This was very interesting and usable, thanks a lot.

Normally it should. If you boost your input, the first half of the 12A.7 gets the boosted signal, so normally it should. However it's possible that it doesn't if you keep your channel volume too low (the valves following on the first one don't get enough input to clip). Just give it a try |

Yep, that would be TOM MORELLO! Into a Marshall. |

| In the early 80's Adrian Belew used various eq stuff to get distortion through a JC120. |

quote: A guy on another forum suggested playing my Boss GE-7 as a boost --set the EQ flat but bump the Level slider all the way up. I set the EQ sliders mostly flat and took his suggestion of raising the level to max, I stepped on the box and WOW! I couldn't believe what overdrive I was getting. I have a VOX AC30 and they are known for growling classic rock overdrive, nothing crazy, but with that little EQ trick I was getting an incredible distortion/overdrive that was Hendrix like.
I tried this into an AC30's normal channel but along with boosting the mids and some of the lower treble a tiny bit ..... wow sounds awesome! could clean up to a nice clean tone and on full on the guitar gave a great crunch tone. Although it was BLOODY LOUD! |
