Done! Got the pickups today, soldered everything in place and strung it up. Thoose pickups, GFS Lil Punchers, are very good, quite a bit tele twang even if they´re humbuckers. I had to do a fret leveling yesterday as there was a couple of uneven frets. It feels and plays good and it was a lot of fun doing it. I will cut a new nut as the one supplied is of plastic, and not the hardest plastic. I can spit the pickups with the tone control, push-pull style, but I don´t think I like the singel coil sound of thoose very much.

| Very cool, Goran! You have to put the Volvo label on the headstock, it matches your Valve Jr. then! But serious, very good job! |

BEAU-tiful guitar.
I almost hate when a project comes to an end though. Its like, you've implemented most of your great ideas & even though you have a few more, you opt out in order to get it done so you can play with whatever you've created. But so it goes for anything creative eh?
Congrats Goran! |

Great job bro'... ... i know what you mean about splitting the pickups...i came To that conclusion over the weekend playing my tele as well....the 1 meg pots made more of a difference than the coil split IMHO....YOUR tele looks really great sort of like a cross between jerry donuhues original and danny gattons with the two mini humbuckers......the woodgrain in the body looks really classy... |

Great project. Very reasonable price and you'll have lots of fun.
A few years back I put together a tele made by Brian at http://www.projectguitar.com . He made the parts and sold them as a kit. My plan was to put the Ikea logo on the headstock but I sold it before I got that far.
If it´s OK for you Bossarea I think the IKEA logo is a great idea, so could I use it? I´ve been thinking a lot of this the last week, different ideas to use on the headstock, Volvo was of course the first one but the logos from cars are to big to look nice. I was also thinking of putting Fender on the headstock, but spelled like if a Swede was trying to spell it and not knowing English; FÄNDÖRR
IKEA is the best idea so far, if any of you have ideas please write in the topic!

Goran, question.
How would you describe this guitar ? Is it the best you ever owned ? Is it the worst you ever owned ? How much would you pay for it if you found it in a store in this condition ?
I'm considering buying me a flying v model and I want to do a few adjustments. Is it worth the effort ? will it be a player or just something you hang on your wall ? Thanx |

Hard questions, but it´s not the greatest tele I´ve owned, far from that. There were issues like a couple of frets taller than the others, the body is a bit thinner than a “real” tele, the body has a little different contour, the pots and switches are of sub-quality, the pickups are not very good, tuning machines OK. But what I got for the price I think it´s worth it, and the fun of working on it (including the fret levelling). Now it plays good and sounds good, much better than the average Squier Affinity or Epiphone Special. It´s certainly not a wall-hanger, it´s a nice tele with a sound all of it´s own. What would I pay for it??? Not an easy one to answer, but I think I got a lot for very few money. And as I liked the work nearly only that is worth the price.

Thats it in a nutshell i think....i found the same when building my speaker cabs and modding my squier tele and strat....would my jap squiers replace my USA strat..no..but the enjoyment i got out of doing the work could not be bought...plus the squiers or the cabs are no wallhangers they work very well the either the squier tele or strat are my backup guitars on all the gigs and the cabs will be going on the road soon... |

Thanx guys for the quick replies
I have some spare parts lying around (emg's, grover machine heads, gotoh tremolo.) I can get some nice maple veneer. So most important are the neck and body.
Maybe I give it a try. |

You sure did Dr Bob, and I´m glad you did. I have buildt guitars before, 3 or 4 from plain wood, but none of them was very good as for example fret installation is a hard thing to get good. By postingns like this or Franzonis cab we can learn a lot from each other and hopefully inspire each other. Here is a much better picture than the first ones, this time I used my own camera. The first ones was by my daughters old cheap one.
