During this year I have had a growing interest in fuzzes and bought a couple of them. I already had FZ-2 and 3 and about a month ago bought FZ-5.
The other brands I bought was:
Little Big Muff Pi; like it very much.
DOD Classic Fuzz; sounds a bit like the Muff, sounds great to my ears.
Moody�s Fuzz; a Fuzz Face clone that I build myself, very good!
Are there any other good fuzzes around that you recommend? New or vintage.

depends how crazy you want to go.
i recommend the Z-Vex Fuzz Factory. the sounds you can get out of that box are just indescribable. check out reviews, at some points you forget that its a fuzz pedals |

I have had the Z-vex fuzz on the wants list for some time, reading about it gives me GAS�.
I also really likes the hand painted pedals from Z-vex, nice!

The Zoom UF-01 Ultra Fuzz is worth having. It's a smooth sounding fuzz, one of the modern ones I think of as "fuzzstortions" - but you've got lots of options it has a resonance control (which will make it self-oscillate when cranked) and a noise gate (which you can also use to cut the signal off short, like a Maestro fuzz).
A Z Vex Fuzz Factory is a must - I think some of my current pedal collection is going to bite the dust to make way for one of them...
If you don't want to spend too much, the Danelectro French Toast is wonderful. It's an Octave Fuzz - supposed to be modelled on the Foxx Tone Machine - and you can pick them up second-hand for a few pounds, because kids buy them thinking they'll sound like Metal bands and then get something else entirely. This is an outrageous fuzz - one of those thick 70's ones that you hear on Isley Brothers tracks. The octave feature is bizarre; it works OK on top register notes but goes to pieces on the low ones. Playing octaves makes an incredible sound - think the guitar break on U2's "Vertigo".
What else... the MXR Jimi Hendrix fuzz (red one) is great, really full and smooth sounding, makes a great overdrive... and the Ibanez FZ7 is a fuzzstortion with a switch that enables you to progressively degrade the sound quality.

| Goran, the best sounding fuzz I've ever heard is Analog Man's Sun Face (the one I've heard belongs to a friend of mine, unfortunately). it's not especially high-gain, but it's a very, very musical-sounding fuzz. |

You have to remember though, the Big Muff isn't a fuzz, it's a distortion, it's a common misconception. I absolutely love mine though, I've also done the 'Emitter' mod to it, removing 3 resistors and replacing them with jumpers, you get more sustain and even more of a 'wall of sound' tone, it's basically the 'Creamy Dreamer' mod that goes a long way to replicate some of the sounds on 'Siamese Dream'.
Aside from that I've got an FZ-2 which I like but I'm looking to sell. I'm also in the process of finishing up a ZVEX Fuzz Factory clone. |

i still have my fz3 which i like a lot...might not be a'classic' fuzz but it gets a .... from me for a few years of faithful service....... it was great when we were doing lots of floyd stuff off the dark side of the moon....especially on the solo from 'time' i thought it got close to gilmours fuzz face sounds....which as far as i know boss went for (silicon fuzzface) when designing it..... |

Ive also got a FZ-3 and it does the job. Its not a centerpiece sound though. I checked out Keeley's sound samples and it seems too 70's rock for my liking.
I am looking into the Zvex Fuzz factory as we speak... |

| a buddy of mine has the fuzz factory and i must say it is brilliant...i don't dabble in fuzz much but i do have a fender blender and it's alright for an octave fuzz...very abrasive at times but i like to use it with an overdrive and dist. before and an eq after while turning the blend down so you can still hear the notes through...but thats just me, i like noise... |

As for the Fuzz Factory, I do indeed have a schematic, along with schematics of a fair few other ZVex pedals. I'm not going to post them here, but send me an email/message and I'll email you them (if you post a request here it may not get a response for a while as I'm not around that often). |
